Example written accounts from this D-block
- The infamous "A66 at Stainmore", prone to closure from high winds and snow, runs above the track to the farm. on A66 and Track to Light Trees by Bob Jenkins
- The dry-ish soil is due to underlying limestone. Dead moles are occasionally found in the cave system which runs beneath. The climate here is very harsh in winter, and most sheep are taken down to lower pastures for the worst of the season. on Moles on Stainmore by Bob Jenkins
- This is a Roman Fortlet - quite distinctive in shape when you are there, but difficult to photograph. Looking West, the road is the A66. on Maiden Castle, near Brough, Cumbria by David Medcalf
