A view towards Barmouth.
: Fight between fresh & salt water by John Haynes Fight between fresh & salt water
The movement of sand and stone on this beach constantly moves the outlet of Afon Ysgethin to the sea.
: A rare patch of rocks where the river has scoured away the sand by David Medcalf A rare patch of rocks where the river has scoured away the sand
The river itself is hardly visible, sinking into the sand.

: Afon Ysgethin emerges from the dunes by John Haynes Afon Ysgethin emerges from the dunes
Once through the dunes the river has to find a way through the stone banks to get to the sea. The actual pattern shown on the map is probably different from the river as it is today, and a big westerly storm will change it all again.
: Sand dunes, stones & debris by John Haynes Sand dunes, stones & debris
Typical beach at the point where a river emerges to the sea.
: Chalets in the Holiday Village by John Haynes Chalets in the Holiday Village
Modern holiday chalets on the beach front, I wonder what it's like in a westerly storm?
: A new river by David Medcalf A new river
Not really new, just a significant change of course which is not shown on the OS map. The river now flows through the pools which *are* shown on the map.
: Open sands and wartime defences by David Medcalf Open sands and wartime defences
The pole sticking out of the sand, and one visible in the pool, are part of the defences to stop aircraft landing on the beach.
: Looking towards Barmouth Bay Holiday Park by David Medcalf Looking towards Barmouth Bay Holiday Park
: The beach near Barmouth Bay Holiday Park by David Medcalf The beach near Barmouth Bay Holiday Park
: Access area through the sea defences by David Medcalf Access area through the sea defences
The road through the holiday park ends above this shingle bank which allows beach access.
