NT9464 : Volcanic rocks, coast at Eyemouth by Jim Barton Volcanic rocks, coast at Eyemouth
These are lavas erupted in the Old Red Sandstone (Devonian) era more than 400 million years ago, and predate the Carboniferous volcanoes that produced familiar features such as Bass Rock, N Berwick Law and Arthur's Seat among others.... (more)

The sedimentary rocks in the lower part of the cliff consist largely of conglomerate, including angular fragments of purple lava and pale green sandstone. Above this is the more familiar red sandstone.
