Above the Quarry. Harter Fell ridge on the horizon

Looking up the steep and stony path which climbs from Brownhowe Bottom to the top of the Gatescarth Pass.

The entrance to the shaft is flooded. A break in the tunnel is reflected in the water. The shaft continues beyond the break.

At the head of Longsleddale, the pack horse route carries on up the hillside to Gatescarth Pass and on down to Mardale and the Haweswater Reservoir. The signpost is pointing the way for the bridle path to Mosedale.

The small quarry spoils in view are two of a number around the head of Longsleddale. There are much larger ones in the district and in the same valley; one of them, Wrengill Quarry, is just out of view at the top right of the image where... (more)

Two watercourses meet with a series of waterfalls and cascades. This could be assumed to be the starting point of the infant River Sprint since the left-hand beck comes from Wren Gill and the other from Brownhowe Bottom.
