The area is covered with these traps apparently to help the repopulation of the Black Grouse. Plenty of Red Grouse were seen in the area but no others.

The drystone wall is shown as an intermittent black line, presumably remnants of the wall marked further up the gill.

High up the gill under Little Shunner Fell. The remains of an old wall run alongside the gill.

This struggling conifer stands in splendid isolation above the upper reaches of the gill many miles from others of its kind. I suspect a cone may have been carried from plantations over the fell in Cotterdale, possibly by a bird.
