Only a couple of kilometres from its sources and still free-flowing, the infant River Hodder is here above the Stocks Reservoir which impounds it a similar distance downstream. It's probably too small to paddle here, even if the heavy and persistent rain which had only recently started lasted for days, but at least there would be an eddy before death-by-livestock-fence claimed any intrepid canoeists under the bridge itself.
