White Winter Squash Varieties

Nothing speaks fall like farm market bins filled to the brim with colorful winter squash. Amidst the green, yellow, orange, and gold colors you may sometimes find a white squash. White winter squash is rarely found in markets, but you can choose seed and grow your own. Check out online seed companies that offer unique white squash varieties.

White Acorn Squash

In the 1980s, the white acorn squash was developed by Glenn Drowns. The skin of a mature white acorn squash is creamy white to a pale yellow. The inside flesh is yellowish-gold and has a mildly sweet taste containing Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, potassium, magnesium, and thiamin. It can be stored in a cool, dry area for about a month.

Cushaw White Squash

This heirloom squash, also called Jonathan Pumpkin, has been popular in the South as far back as 1891. The outer skin is white and the flesh is pale orange. If you want huge yields and plants that are resistant to squash bugs, choose this variety.

Yugoslavian Finger Fruit Squash

This cream-colored winter squash has unique characteristics. Here are the characteristics that make it unique:

  • Ten finger-like ribs pointing in the same direction.
  • Eaten early like a summer squash.
  • Also grown to maturity and considered a winter squash.
  • Grown past maturity and used for fall decorations.

White Summer Squash Varieties

Zucchini Lungo Bianco Squash

This zucchini variety is considered a white variety although its color is a very pale green. This mild, sweet squash originates from Italy.

Zucchini Lungo Bianco di Sicilia

Lungo Bianco di Sicilia squash is also considered a white squash. The Sicilian fruit grows long and slender. It is a productive variety producing running vines.

White Scallop Squash

This scalloped edged squash originates in America back to about 1591. Some say this squash’s shape resembles a flying saucer. It is also known as pattypan squash because it resembles an antique scalloped pie pan. This time-tested white squash produces high yields of great tasting squash.

Lebanese White Bush Marrow Squash

This sweet, mild squash is an oblong, cream-colored summer squash that is mature in as little as 50 days. It is harvested when it is about 7 inches long. Lebanese white bush squash is sometimes known as Lubnani squash.
