really liked it

The first 100 pages were a bit convoluted and felt overstuffed with beautiful yet dense prose, so much so that it almost became unbearable- like chewing a mouthful of sweets that never break down. But Ms Ward's words effectively set the stage for the horribly haunting tale that followed, the mindsets of the characters involved, and the cruelty their lives were bathed in.
Enjoy gothic horror of the highest order? then this is the book for you.

Jan Very few can make overstuffed beautiful dense prose and make it work. But Catriona Ward can. Even if I choke a little.

message 4: by Amos (new) - rated it 4 stars

Amos Right? Stick with her through her rocky yet intriguing beginnings and you will be wonderfully rewarded, chokes and all ;)
