“I watch that fucker touch Maggie, and I want to rip his arm off. But of course, I don’t because that would be, well, physically impossible. But I still envision it as I chase the kids around. Me walking up and tugging dream guy’s arms clean off. Bashing his skull in with the bloody stump. Throwing Maggie over my shoulder and carrying him home. Fucking him against the wall.”
So you know how you open a bag of chips and once you start eating you can’t stop until they’re all gone? But then at the end you’re like umm where did they all go? Well that’s what it felt like reading Sem. It was addictive as hell and went really fast, but if you ask me for my thoughts a few days later I’d be hard-pressed to tell you anything meaningful about it.
So the plot is ridiculous. Like absolutely bonkers! I mean the victim of a stalker, Magnus, starts fucking his stalker, Sem, because of the stalker’s dare that he can’t handle his huge dick. Okay…and once it happens Magnus keeps on falling on Sem’s dick because Sem keeps upping the ante. Needless to say, the relationship starts off in a “suspend your disbelief” kind of way, but then somehow our victim catches feelings for this weird psycho over time. And Sem is downright weird folks. He’s hot, humongous, and scary looking; he’s also obsessive and possessive. Sem keeps breaking into Magnus’s house where he makes himself at home. But hey their relationship works so who am I to judge?
Their romance features several tropes I’m a sucker for: class differences, hurt/comfort, and gay-for-you. Sem is a working class guy who works at a scrapyard. He sees Magnus one night and immediately becomes obsessed with him. He’s never been attracted to a guy before and doesn’t understand why he’s so fascinated with Magnus, but all he knows is that he can’t stay away from him. But Sem doesn’t think he’s good enough for Magnus who is a teacher-in-training. It also doesn’t help that Magnus announces that his ideal guy is educated, witty, and cultured.
Magnus soon realizes, however, that what he really wants might be staring him right in the face when he sees: the way Sem is so great with kids; how Sem is so honest about his feelings for him; and the way he worships him and won’t let anyone put him down. Is there something wrong with me because I love Sem’s OTT protectiveness—you know how he threatens to kill Magnus’s family when they bully him? So even though Sem and Magnus are both hurting, they manage to find solace and affirmation in each other. And did I mention that they have really hot sex??
“I never felt the urge to have sex with a man before. When I saw Maggie for the first time, though, it was like something just clicked in my brain. I wanted him. I needed him.”
“Hey. Sem. Eyes on me.” Those blue irises met mine, and I hold his gaze. “I need you to understand this. “You’re enough, Sem. You’re enough.” I say softly, and he blinks once before his mouth crashes down onto mine.”...more

“I want to figure out how to make this work. I want to try, Ethan. Because…” A pause, and Ethan felt his heart burst. “Because when you truly fall for someone, you have to be willing to try anything to make that work. I don’t know the future. I don’t know if it will work between us. But, I am asking you… Can we give it a shot?”
Now this is how you write a romantic thriller! Heart-pounding action, a slow burn romance, and a believable gay-for-you story kept me glued to the page from start to finish. Enemies of the State plunges you into the byzantine politics of Washington without losing sight of the romance between a newly inaugurated president, Jack, and Ethan, a Secret Service agent.
Jack, a widower, is lonely in his new role and in the White House. He is not a typical politician motivated by self-interest, but just wants to do good and bring peace to the world. Jack tries to befriend Ethan, who resists his efforts because it’s against the SS code to get close to protectees. But Ethan can’t fight the attraction to his very straight president even though he knows he’s playing with fire.
Ethan falls harder and harder for Jack as they develop a clandestine friendship, until he does the unthinkable and kisses Jack. Shocked, Jack pushes him away and Ethan flees from him mortified and heartbroken. But while the kiss shocks Jack, it makes him see Ethan in a different light. What follows is a period of angst, mutual pining, and major confusion for Jack as he realizes he needs Ethan in his life, but isn’t sure whether he can have a sexual relationship with a man.
Tal Bauer handles Jack’s inner turmoil exquisitely. His confusion about what his feelings for Ethan mean. The recognition that Ethan has become vital to him. So vital that Jack is willing to try having a relationship with him to keep him in his life. Jack’s sexual awakening is slow and deliberate, and feels authentic. It’s emotional and sweet to follow Jack as he explores sex with Ethan: his nervousness, sense of wonder, and earnestness.
As for the plot itself, lovers of current affairs will appreciate the international relations portions. Most of the conflicts and situations are based on actual events, albeit exaggerated for effect. As a Tanzanian, I was pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of the geopolitics of East Africa and the African Union.

“I think there’s something about you that just…” Logan pulled him to a stop. “That just?” Tate touched his cheek and simply said, “Calls to a part of me. And I don’t think it would’ve mattered what age we were.”
I love Logan and Tate and I was looking forward to seeing where this book would take them, but I was left wanting more. Trust implies a focus on cementing their relationship and a major crisis takes place that tests the foundation of their relationship. Logan is forced to evaluate how much Tate means to him, while Tate is left no choice but to depend heavily on him such that their bond deepens. Of course this being Logan and Tate there’s lots of sex, but their sex scenes were a bit cheesy. There were several moving moments, but I also felt like skimming the sexy times (shocking I know!).

Q: Give us the bottom line. Is “It hadn’t taken me long to realize I didn’t want to sleep with men. I wanted to sleep with Grey Blackwood. Period.”
Q: Give us the bottom line. Is it worth reading? A: Definitely! A fun, sweet, low angst read with plenty of heat.
Q: What kind of tropes are we dealing with? A: enemies-to-lovers. gay for you. class differences. second chance. fake boyfriend. close proximity. revenge.
Q: So who are our main guys? A: Grey Blackwood is a billionaire venture capitalist. A self-made man, he went to Yale on scholarship. Ellison York is a corporate attorney who works for York Capital, a family-owned venture capital firm, that Grey is taking over.
Q: What about the plot? A: Ellison reluctantly participates in a frat prank on Grey at the golf club where Grey’s a caddy; they’re caught in a compromising position and Grey loses his job. Grey also loses his scholarship, internship and contacts for entry in the VC world. Fueled by a desire for revenge, Grey becomes a successful venture capitalist and vows to take over York Capital.
Q: C'mon! Spill the beans on their relationship. A: Once Grey takes over York Capital and his initial hatred for Ellison subsides, he slowly succumbs to their undeniable attraction. Their relationship takes on a set pattern. Ellison is accessible and giving, Grey responds physically, but then retreats and puts up emotional walls. Grey’s lingering fears about the past make it difficult for him to trust Ellison moving forward.
Q: What’s the writing like? A: I enjoyed the dialogue, pacing and overall structure of the story. There’s also some nice banter between Grey and his PA, Marcel.
Q: So tell me what you really really liked. A: Great UST. Grey as the poor kid who does good. Ellison as the blue blood atoning for his frat boy sins. Ellison’s and Grey’s chemistry. Ellison’s pining and honesty about his feelings for Grey. Relationship development.
Q: Any dislikes? A: More of a quibble but this wasn’t really an enemies-to-lovers story because the enmity was completely one-sided on Grey’s part. Ellison never stopped wanting him since Yale.
Q: Steam-o-meter? A: Plenty hot.
Q: So, what’s your final verdict? A: I liked this way more than I expected to given the many mixed reviews. Do give this a try if you’re looking for a light, entertaining read....more

I can’t say enough good things about If We Could Go Back Again. This is the perfect angsty, thought provoking read that will linger in your mind for a while. It made me smile, feel butterflies, moved me and had me yearning to find that special one. But I also felt heartbroken and enraged at times. The happy ever after ending was everything though and left me sighing in contentment.
— gay for you — friends-to-lovers — straight married father/married closeted father — hurt/comfort — coming out — slow burn — angsty — single POV
Bennett Brooks: Ben is a married, devoted father, who is raising two sons on his own while his wife is studying in college out of state. A workaholic in marketing, his life revolves around work and his kids, who are the center of his life.
Kieran Marshall: Kieran is the CEO and owner of a bike messenger company. He’s also a devoted father to a daughter, but stuck in an unhappy marriage as a closeted gay man.
The Plot Bennett takes a commuter train on his way to work every day and is intrigued by the biker messenger who always sits next to him. He wonders how a messenger can afford the business class fare and weaves different stories in his head about who he is and what he does. His interest is even more piqued when he sees the stranger one evening wearing an expensive suit. They start chatting on their commute. Desperately lonely and seeking to make friends, Ben musters up the courage to suggest hanging out sometime; thus begins the start of their friendship.
Their Relationship This is a perfectly paced slow burn romance. You know how slow burns can sometimes be too slow or drag in the middle? That’s not the case here. The pacing is spot on from the very beginning when we meet our characters. Ben is straight and, in my opinion, presents as a case of gay for you rather than a bi awakening. He’s burnt out from juggling work and the kids on his own, his marriage is on the rocks, and he’s lonely. He is fascinated by Kieran and doesn’t understand how their developing friendship has quickly become the only bright spot in his life. The buildup in sexual tension, which Ben fails to recognize for what it is, is brilliant.
“As a ball of guilt dropped into my stomach, my priority didn't change. I couldn't not know Kieran. I couldn't go back. I wouldn't.”
Now let me address the elephant in the room. The cheating. Please note that I do not condone cheating so my reflections shouldn’t be seen as excusing it. However, I do try to put myself in the position of the characters. Cara Dee presents a morally gray situation such that we can’t help but empathize with the MCs. Ben’s and Kieran’s relationship can’t be simplified and nothing is black and white about their situation.
Let’s start off with Ben’s and Kieran’s circumstances. They’re both unhappy couples who married young while in college. Ben’s wife, Allison, is bitter, selfish and disengaged from her husband and kids. She chose to go to an out of state college and leave her family, and doesn’t come home for holidays. Maggie, on the other hand, knew Kieran was gay when she married him. She chose to do so because she wanted to have a family and had a crush on him. And Kieran married her because of his conservative, homophobic, Irish Catholic family. He knew they would shun him if he came out as gay.
Ben and Kieran don’t just cheat to get their rocks off. They find themselves in impossible situations where they're barely holding it together. Pretty soon they come to mean everything to each other. Their friendship is a lifeline and the only time they come to life is in their stolen moments. They find passion, emotional connection, support, and joy together. But they also feel deeply conflicted and guilty about what they’re doing. They can hardly function when they try to deny their attraction and break up.
“Remember you called him my cocaine?” I asked, and she nodded. “He’s not. He’s the love of my life.”
Highlights • Nuanced portrayal of their relationship in all its joy and turmoil.
• Beautiful, emotive writing and dialogue that rings true.
• Great characterization. It’s rare that I like both MCs equally and the single POV (Ben’s) works.
• Ben’s sons and Kieran’s daughter play an important role. The interactions with their fathers and between the two families are wonderful.
• The way Ben and Kieran need and complete each other is swoonworthy.
• The sex scenes hit the spot; they’re smutty but also emotionally connected....more

TW: violence, sexual abuse, morally ambiguous characters
“My little sex kitten. My precious sugar figurine. I’m going to eat you whole and suck all the sweetness out of your bones,” he said and pressed his lips to Arden’s. He’d have burned less if lightning hit him in the dick.”
Buckle up folks for a wild, entertaining, smutty extravaganza of a ride! Our story is set amidst the Smoke Valley MC in the sleepy town of Hawk Springs. The star of our show is blue-eyed, blond, hot as sin Mike, the eldest son (37) in the Heller biker family. He's never met a woman whose pants he couldn’t charm off. Big, bad and biker tough, he’s confident in his sexuality…until he meets Arden, a stunning, eighteen-year-old femme boy who leaves him all sorts of confused. Theirs is a case of push-pull attraction and a classic May-December romance. Sparks fly between them as they are caught in an enthralling game of pursuit.
Mike is straight, as straight as they come, or isn’t he? “I’m just…really confused. There’s something about him. I know he has a dick, and that he is a boy, but he’s just so…feminine. I think about him, like, a lot.”
Mike initially comes across as the stereotypical big, beautiful, dumb biker. A stud who’s down for a good time and not much else. But he turns out to be a good guy. He’s really sweet with Arden and treats him like the most precious thing. And although he’s a shameless flirt, Arden always feels safe around him, knowing that Mike would never force himself on him.
Meet Arden. A long-legged, long lashed, delicately featured, platinum haired femme boy with emotional baggage up the wazoo. Drama is his middle name. He’s petty as f*ck and has a flamboyant sense of fashion. “And the way you dress, you don’t seem to dislike attention either?” “I’m used to it, I’m a graceful unique butterfly. I want to live as my true self, not hide it so everyone else is comfortable.”
A select taste of some of Arden’s shenanigans: a catfight with a stripper over Mike, a minor case of stabbing in a fit of jealous rage, plus a scene where he washes a car in stripper heels, booty shorts and a cropped top.
Arden is like an exotic animal in small town Hawk Springs, where he’s run away to escape his abusive ex-boyfriend, Luke. Arden has sworn off all men since Luke raped him, which is why he’s cool to Mike’s blatant advances. He knows that Mike is straight and suspects that Mike is playing with him, which he is. Arden’s coolness only whets Mike’s appetite for him. Mike bets $50—egged on by his brother and cousin—that he can get Arden to admit that he wants him. Despite Mike's annoying cockiness, I can’t help but love his utter confidence in his own sexuality. He's not fazed by his attraction to Arden nor does he care about what people might think about him. “…because why would he be self-conscious about anything he did? He was a stud, who’d fuck anyone he wanted, not one of those pathetic cockroaches who didn’t dare to be open about such things.”
Arden seeks Mike's help in fending off Luke, who comes back to haunt him, by asking him to pretend to be his boyfriend. The twists and turns their fake relationship take are delicious. Their sexual attraction is scorching and the buildup to sexual action is tense and excruciating. They don’t get down and dirty until the 40 percent mark and although it’s only frottage, the steam level is incendiary. And each subsequent sex scene ratchets up the heat on previous ones. The use of lingerie, dirty talk and the fantasies are exquisite!
“Arden’s cock throbbed right next to his, and he couldn’t force himself to care whether what they were doing was gay or not. It was horny, fleshy, dirty and all his. Just the thought that their spunk now stained Arden’s lacy panties made Mike kiss Arden with more excitement.”
“You’re my wet dream,” Arden rasped, shivering. “Dangerous, horny, cocky…with a dick I think about sixty thousand times a day. But I also feel so safe with you.” He pulled up the edge of the skirt, revealing his growing cock hugged by sheer black panties, and Mike just—He leaned in and kissed it. Such a simple gesture, yet when he breathed in the musk of pre-cum, he shivered as if Arden had held him by the nape. “Jesus. You’re this perfect storm of innocent and dirty.”
And there you have it folks. Smut to die for. Complex characters. Entertainment galore. Just read this. You won’t regret it....more

“I’ve never felt this way before. I told you I didn’t think I could feel this way. I’m in, and when I’m in something, I don’t quit. I’m in love with you. I’m not going to let other people’s bigotry fuck that up.”
Darren Edwards, a star quarterback with the Atlanta Lightning, discovers his sexuality is more fluid than he had ever imagined. He also learns that he is capable of love. His struggle with his sexual identity plays out in real time as he falls in love with Jeremy. I love that he lets Jeremy know exactly how he feels at every step of the way—from his growing attraction, feelings of confusion, need to process things, readiness for a relationship and finally, his willingness to sacrifice everything for him.
Our Leading Men Darren is larger than life—sexy, cocky, funny and a shameless flirt. As one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, he’s used to attention and thrives on it. He comes from a close-knit African American family with humble beginnings; his single mom raised him and his fiercely loyal sister, who’s also his agent. Jeremy Gaines is a recently divorced, successful LA-based lawyer. Jeremy feels lost after a marriage that broke down because of distance and finds himself wanting more out of a relationship moving forward.
Darren’s and Jeremy’s relationship development is delightful to witness. It’s a slow burn romance that begins with occasional texts, until it reaches a point where they can’t end the day without checking in with each other. Darren has always identified as an alpha straight guy and has slept with an endless string of women his entire life. His growing feelings for Jeremy upend his sense of identity. Seeking a sounding board for his inner turmoil, Darren talks to Anson (best friend) who introduces him to the notion of being demisexual and demiromantic.
What I found remarkable is the manner in which Darren handles his identity confusion, adjusting to the changes and embracing them wholeheartedly. In fact, Darren comes across as an incredibly flexible guy for someone who identified as straight his entire life. But along with grappling with labels—he eventually settles on bisexual and demiromantic—being with Jeremy shows him that he is capable of connecting emotionally with someone.
What I Liked • Darren’s OTT flirtatious, but still dorky nature. He’s cocky yet lovable. He doesn’t filter his comments so one always knows where one stands with him.
• Jeremy is the mature, sexy guy who has his shit together. Caring and protective, he’s incredibly supportive of Darren.
• A beautiful interracial relationship. It’s rare to see black MCs in MM romance and Darren is such a treat. He’s not one dimensional, but a fully realized character. Darren is a smoking hot alpha who is open with his emotions, warm and generous with his time.
• Great emotional development and connection before the guys get down and dirty.
• The smut is hot, but also funny. “Oh God, it might kill me. Jesus, we’ll really make headlines if you have to call 911 because I died while fucking you.” I laughed. “Shit. Fuck. Don’t do that. Your ass convulses around me when you do.”
Quibbles • This is just my own preference, but I appreciate a bit more conflict or angst. Darren and Jeremy just clicked seamlessly from the very beginning. And although they had a few bumps along the road, there never seemed to be a major threat to their relationship.
• In a few instances, the OTT flirtatious manner between the couple didn’t quite hit the mark at the very beginning.
• One can’t help but compare this book with the first in the series, and Anson’s and West’s story just seems to have a little edge over this one....more

Nate and Raffaele are the latest installment in AH's slew of high octane, dysfunctional, enemies-to-lovers relationships. It's written in classic AH style with a cold, dominant alpha paired with a needy good guy, but these two make for an especially compelling couple.
Nate is a twenty-two year old idealistic gaming designer. He's blonde, good-looking and a people magnet, and has a friendly and open personality. Raffaele, aka "Satan", is vice president of the Caldwell Group. Arrogant, domineering and demanding, he's unapproachable and hot as hell.
Nate becomes Raffaele's personal assistant on a bet and from the very beginning, he is the only person who can stand up to Raffaelle and talk back to him. What begins as Raffaele making things really unbearable so that Nate quits, quickly becomes a game of brinksmanship with Nate trying to prove that he can handle whatever is thrown at him. Although Nate is mouthy and unafraid, he cannot help following Raffaele's orders unquestioningly. And before he knows it, he finds himself spending every minute of his day studying and anticipating Raffaele's every need and desire.
Intelligent and possessing a crazy work ethic, Raffaele has exacting standards and expects complete obedience. He terrorizes the workplace and always gets what he wants. He also has an insane sex drive—as in a "have to have sex every few days" kind of sex drive otherwise his work performance deteriorates. It therefore makes complete sense that buying condoms for his boss is among Nate's many thankless tasks! As well as keeping an eye out for whether Raffaele's gone too long without getting laid. Indeed, Raffaele's insatiable sex drive is a running theme in many of the situations that the couple end up in.
Hits • Couldn't get enough of Raffaele's aloof, domineering alpha shtick. Seeing him interacting with Nate is a mood.
• This is a rare instance where a character’s neediness actually worked for me. Nate is adorably needy. He could see the trainwreck coming with Raffaele, but he just couldn't help himself.
• Loved the dysfunctional, frenzied, and dizzying sexual haze that Raffaele and Nate were in. They literally couldn't stop f*cking their brains out.
“Nate moaned around the cock and fumbled with his own fly. Pulling out his own erection, he stroked it hard and fast, while his boss used his mouth. “Look at you, ”Ferrara said huskily. “You’re the biggest cock slut I’ve ever seen.” The filthy words caused a horrible mix of arousal and humiliation, and Nate came, moaning around the cock in him. Ferrara groaned and slammed his cock against his throat a few times before spilling deep into it. Nate swallowed greedily, every single drop. And he wanted more. Jesus.
Misses • The escalating game of chicken between Rafaelle and Nate was pretty predictable and, of course, over-the-top. If you're an AH fan, you can easily anticipate how things will escalate.
• Structurally, the Lake Como gathering at Roman's villa in Italy is one of the weaker parts of the plot. Featuring cameos by Luke and Roman, it mainly seems like an effort to please fans of Just a Bit Ruthless. There are way too many things going on simultaneously here. Mafia dealings. Nate and Raffaele doing the fake relationship trope. And all in the span of a week! A lot of stuff supposedly happens but apart from providing opportunities for Nate and Raffaele to get naked, not much else really makes sense....more

Logan is a hot, successful lawyer who owns his own firm. He’s a major manslut who is used to getting whoever (male or female) and whatever he wants, whenever he wants it. Tate, on the other hand, is a straight, gorgeous bartender who’s in the middle of a nasty divorce. Logan meets Tate when the latter starts bartending at his regular after work haunt. He immediately starts pursuing Tate, flirts shamelessly and won’t take no for an answer.
Hits Logan’s character development. Logan starts off as this cocky, persistent character who’s only interested in getting into Tate’s pants. But as Tate continually rebuffs him—a situation which he’s not used to—what starts off as an irresistible challenge quickly turns into a desire for much more.
Tate. I like his honesty. He doesn’t shy away from his feelings. He’s honest with himself and Logan about feeling confused about being in relationship with a man. From the very beginning, he makes it clear to Logan that he’s a relationship person and unwilling to be another notch on Logan’s belt. And that he’ll also need time to process his attraction to and relationship with Logan.
Riding along with journey as Tate experiences a sexual awakening with Logan.
Some seriously hot makeup sex! Jealousy, newfound feelings of possessiveness, miscommunication and crazy sexual tension lead to some explosive makeup sex.
Misses The book starts off with a MF sexual encounter in an airplane, which feels superfluous. I guess it's intended to show that Logan is bisexual, women find him insanely attractive—plus that he can get laid at a moment’s notice.
The wall-to-wall sex becomes repetitive after a while. Although it is hot, there is such a thing as smut overload.
Tate’s rapid U-turn. In the span of two weeks, Tate shifts from being completely straight and relationship wary (due to his divorce) to embracing a serious relationship with Logan.
An emotional connection between the MCs doesn’t really develop until the last quarter of the book. Then again, this may be a deliberate move by the author as Try is the first book in a series focusing on the MCs’ relationship....more
