I just love Dr. Seuss! I will tell my parents they did something wrong because they did not introduce me to his books when I was a kid.
I just love how chaotic yet amazing his stories and characters are. In this, the main character doesn't flip out even when she knows things are wacky everywhere she goes. Some parts of things would be missing, some twisted, some in wrong places but nevertheless as we all say:
If things are going wrong, take a good nap. Yes, that's all folks 😁😍😅

Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss is one of my kids' favorite Dr. Seuss books. They are ALWAYS excited to read it. It's a whole book full of "What's wrong with this picture?" pages. There is a plot - a child wakes up noticing a shoe on a wall, and the entire Wacky Wednesday proceeds with many, many things wrong all day long. Until bedtime when things were righted, and "I even got rid of that shoe on the wall."

I'm always up for reading a Dr. Seuss book. When a little boy wakes up on a Wednesday, he figures out that everything around him has turned upside down, inside out and completely back to front. Nobody seems to recognize the change. Now it is upon the boy to discover the abnormalities and deal with it by himself. Because clearly, nobody's helping him.
Simple, lucid and enjoyable.

This book says it's by Dr. Seuss but it's ACTUALLY by some other guy! Underwhelming. I was barely even whelmed at all. Afterward my dad gave me this speech about how even if a book isn't our favorite we can always learn something from it. NERD ALERT. -M

This was one of my favourite picture books when I was a beginner reader.
In classic Dr. Seuss style this story is simplistic and fun, with illustrations that work directly alongside the story, requiring the reader to spot all the wacky things wrong in each picture.

An ode to a really strange day

This is probably my favourite Dr Seuss book, having I read it many a time when I was a kid. I guess the reason for that was because it was one of those books that you didn't just read, but actively participated in it as well. On every page there were things out of the ordinary, and you, the reader, were to try and find as many of these 'Wacky' things as possible. I must also admit that I have not read it in a while, and I suspect that with my rather odd personality, would purposely find more wacky things than the authors originally intended.
Basically this book is about a kid that has had a bad day. He wakes up and suddenly discovers that things have simply gone all weird. Well, granted, when you are on acid things do end up looking really, really weird (just watch Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas), but I am doubtful that it is suggested in this book that the boy took something that we was not supposed to before he went to school.
I would probably suggest that this book is allegorical as well (allegory, as I have previously mentioned, is actually a very good way to assist a child in understanding the world around them. C.S. Lewis understood that when he wrote The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe). The allegory here, and the lesson to be learnt, is that we will always have bad days, or Wacky Wednesdays (I heard that used that as a term for coming down off of hard drugs). However, we are to do our best to make good light of the bad situation. Bad days will always happen, however we need to laugh and look at the bright side of life, just as Brian did when he was hanging on the cross.

I thought this was gonna be one of Dr. Seuss's short books, one that might be a bit dull. The rhyming is basic and the story is short but it was really good fun, a sort of play on a spot-the-difference puzzle. You look at the page and have to find all the odd things, teachers in roll skates, somebody walking a crocodile or chimneys in trees. It took us a while but we managed to find them all, a good puzzle book to do with your kids.

November 7, 2015From my own memories reading literature as a child, without a shadow of a doubt, "Wacky Wednesday" was in my main library; out of all of Seuss' classics even over "Cat In The Hat", it was this (published under Theo. LeSiege) "I Spy"-almost style book, the tale of a blonde haired boy counting all of the "wacky" and unexplainable things he could find to appear a Wednesday, that captured my attention. Almost too like an alphabet book, "Wacky Wednesday" propels it's readers along and educates them in the skills of counting and numbers. Each page asks for the reader to count along the "wacky" things to solve the almost "mysteries" of the story never explaining why this Wednesday is this way, and then turn the page for a new set of finds. The wacky situations are in numbered order (page 1 has a shoe on the wall, page 3 a working hose is cut in half, bananas grow from an apple tree, etc.) and it's not until the end (the top number being 20, easy for a child) when Patrolman McGann finishes the day with: "Just find them [the 20 wacky things left] and then you can go to bed," when the reader can close the book finished and satisfied. The shoe on the wall is removed, and a normal Thursday rises. Images are everything in "Wacky Wednesday" because that is the medium in which the wacky scenarios are communicated; without images in "Wacky Wednesday," the reader wouldn't be able to play along! Theo. LeSiege built an interactive book with the images being the medium in which to interact - strictly without them, it won't be a story but a bunch of words. The style of images is noteworthy specifically because under the name, "Dr. Seuss," one sees a completely different drawing style than under "Theo LeSiege." "Theo LeSiege"'s artwork is much more realistic and human-like, rather than revolving around spinally creatures, animals, monsters, loraxes and otherwise; outside of the wacky situations, there seems to be no made up fictional creatures/characters commonly found in Dr. Seuss. It is as if Theo LeSiege is the real one so he illustrates reality, and "Dr. Seuss" is fictional, and so he illustrates the fiction. In terms of literary elements, the boy narrator in first person is meant to represent all children, little boys and little girls of all classes and races, but he is not the main focus of the story. The main focus and attention drawer of the story is, obviously, the wack-nesses that are happening, and therefore have no gender, class, race, ethnicity, etc tied to them. The mood/voice of the story does a wonderful job of speaking what all readers are thinking ("What the heck is wrong with this Wednesday??) and even that, as inanimate thoughts having no distinguishable factor ties, works in LeSiege's favor in terms of diversity/representing readers of any/all ages.

Then I looked up. And I said, "Oh, MAN!"
And that's how Wacky Wednesday began.
Dr. Seuss both wrote and illustrated his most famous works, but he did create a few books illustrated by others, usually using a pseudonym. He wrote Wacky Wednesday under the name Theo. LeSieg--his own name, Theodore Geisel, turned around. It was illustrated by George Booth.
Wacky Wednesday tells of one Wednesday when everything was wacky: shoes on the wall, bananas growing on an apple tree, worms chasing birds, and much more. Seuss's text is very much secondary to Booth's illustrations. The text of each two-page spread announces the number of things that are 'wacky' in the accompanying illustration, inviting the reader to find them all.
The number of wacky things in each scene increases as the book goes along, culminating in a final two-page spread with twenty wacky things:
"Only twenty things more will be wacky," he said.
"Just find them and then you can go back to bed."
The type of wackiness varies, exercising different skills: counting (how many wacky things have we found?), spelling ('schoul' is not the right way to spell 'school'), domain knowledge (a portrait of Abraham Lincoln should not be labelled 'George Washington'), and simple attention to detail (turtles do not belong atop trees!).
Wacky Wednesday is a great book that encourages participation from the reader. It's appropriate for April Fool's Day or any day.

We've all had them. Those days that just seem to be crazy and wacky. Those days that you just want to go get back in bed and not get back up again until the next day.
Well, this little children's book puts a funny little twist to those days. It makes learning to count fun and funny! Some of the people around him make him feel like he is the crazy one, then he comes across someone who helps him out and let's him know he isn't quite as crazy as people try to make him out to be.
Oh such is Life! Sometimes, you feel like you're the only one going through some craziness until you run into that one person that lets you know: No, it's not just you! I deal with it or have dealt with it as well!
This has become yet another favorite Dr. Seuss book! Yes, I am a "bit old" to be going through these just to go through them, but, there are so many books that I know weren't read to me when I was little because they either came out as I got older and/or we just didn't know about them at the time. It also just may be that I don't remember some of them because I was so young.
Wacky Wednesday was a fun, cute read in a way that only Dr. Seuss and these types of books can be!

Another childhood favorite! These illustrations fascinated me as a kid, and they still do!
This book is a "what's wrong with this picture" story, where each page showcases a number of things that are wrong (chairs with missing legs, strollers with feet instead of wheels). And the reader has to find them all.
The rhymes are fun and the pictures a hoot! I would love it if there were an answer key in the back, but sadly there's not. Still, this made a huge impression on me as a kid, and looking back through the illustrations now I can see why. Loads of fun!

I saved this one to read on a Wednesday and found it a lot of fun to pick out the wacky things on each page. My favourites were the many weird and wacky things you can do to a pram and its baby occupants.

I love this as an ESL teacher. This is a great way to get the child involved in the story. I can have them find the mistakes and then I can build on them but asking to name the objects that are wrong or for older ones, ask them what would it be like if they were really that way.

Like most of the books written under Dr. Seuss’ secondary pen name (Theo LeSieg) and illustrated by other individuals, Wacky Wednesday falls short of the full Seussical magic that imbues many of his other books. The basis for the story, the increasing wackiness of this particular Wednesday as observed by an increasingly confused young protagonist, is strong as it contains the seed of whimsy that Dr. Seuss’ mad-cap stories are known for, but without his unique style of illustrations the story misses the mark by a hair. The narration is simple, essentially asking readers to spot an increasing number of wacky occurrences with each scene as the boy goes about his day, which provides young readers with lots of entertainment with each turn of the page. But with Seuss not providing any specific direction to the illustrator in terms of content, free reign and madness could be explored at whim, yet Booth’s style is a touch too simple and doesn’t reach the potential that Seuss set him up for. I’m not sure why Seuss himself didn’t bother illustrating this book (1974 seems to be right in the midst of his career, though at a bit of a point of decline), but it seems a shame that we missed out on what could have been one of his most whimsically illustrated books!

I remembered reading this book as a child and to re-read it was fun. The story has puzzles that you have to find which increases the interest of the plot.

This book was a lot of fun and one of my favourites of Seuss’ releases. It’s also interesting because it was presented as Dr. Seuss writing as Theo Dreisel. Ha.

I quite don’t agree with the concept because It’s a beginner book and kids don’t know if something is wacky or odd unless you define it so. They explore things and learn. The sister who doesn’t have a leg or some other thing define here should they identify it is wacky?

February 15, 2021Text-to Teaching Connection: I love this book! It was like that, my childhood favorite novel, trying to find something wacky around my house. This book is about this kid who wakes up and learns it's all turned wacky! On his wall, there are shoes, alligators in strollers, and the sun is green. I loved this book, and I will continue to love it all my life. As a teacher, I would bring this book to life in my classroom! I would purposely place things wacky through the class. Each student will draw/write all the wackiness throughout the class. In the end, we will see if some children notice things that the others miss and discuss it as a class.

Wacky Wednesday was written by Theodor Seuss Geisel under the pseudonym Theo LeSieg (Geisel backwards) in 1974. In this book, the narrator is a little girl who wakes up one morning in her own house to find a wacky occurrence. As the story proceeds, the number of wacky occurrences increases on every page, and soon the reader is engaged in finding and counting the wacky items on the double page spreads. The illustrations for this book are different from those created by Dr. Seuss because this book is illustrated by George Booth. In this book there are internal rhymes that are typical of books by Dr. Seuss. The strange events that occur are pointed out only in number in the text, so it is up to the reader to locate the wacky events in the illustrations. The text and illustrations create ambiguous meaning because the characters in the book deny that anything wacky is taking place, even when they are missing legs or wearing a shoe on their head! Tension is created as the narrator encounters increasing numbers of wacky things, and as she tries to escape the wacky world, she is consoled by a police officer assuring her that her adventure is almost over. The narrator finds every last wacky item, and wakes up to find that order in her world has been restored. The theme of the book is about order, expectations, and perseverance. The narrator wants her world to return to its predictable order that follows the expectations that everything is right in the world, however, she discovers that she must persist through her exercises to find that her world will return to its orderly function once again.
