I’m Saige Kinley, and these men will do absolutely everything to possess me, whether I’m ready or not.
Somehow I’ve caught the attention of the most powerful immortals in the country. Once as close as brothers, they now rule separately. Their animosity is infamous.
Fresh out of university, I thought I would build a simple life, starting with my cubicle translating job. But nope. I found myself thrust into a world of diplomacy and crime, a world where the three most dangerous men have eyes for only me.
Who are they? These men are human… but not exactly. Their centuries of monotony are broken by my presence, and they easily fixate on me.
How can they want me so quickly and completely? We’re toxic and twisted, and my instincts are screaming at me to run. But they insert their way into my life, into my body, until I can’t tear myself away. This codependency can’t be love, right?
These immortals push my limits to the max, I only hope I don’t lose myself in the process.
This book contains tropes common in darker romance. The Reeling is intended for mature audiences who enjoy anti-heroes who obsess over the heroine in an unhealthy way. Please read at your own discretion and consider the note at the front of the book.
SAFETY SQUAD: This is a New Adult reverse harem novel, meaning there are multiple love interests for our heroine and she doesn't have to choose. Medium burn, guaranteed HEA by the end of the duet, and absolutely no cheating or OW drama. Just deeply possessive men with eyes only for their woman.
Ehh. To be honest, I don’t know what was going on for a good majority of this book, but for some reason, I didn't hate it. The fantasy elements are both overly simple and unnecessarily complicated - it’s bizarre.
Alright! So, the idea of it was pretty brilliant. Storyline also was original and grabbed me
BUT
The way it was written was confusing. Sex scenes just came like a wrecking ball from left field , smacked you in the face and left with questions how, when, why?
It was like strings of things happening and leading everything randomly into random or rather waited direction.
My whole state of mind reading this was
What What What
That doesn’t make sense
It was like a guide taking me to museum and starting from the middle time jumping from past to present and back. No rhythm.
🔸h wasn’t virgin 🔸none of H’s were manwhores 🔸all H’s are immortals 🔸no ow/om drama 🔸no cheating 🔸 descriptive smex scenes
First off, this is described as paranormal/paranormal-lite but it's not really, at least to me. The "paranormal" part I view more as light sci-fi. Yes, there are immortal's in this world but they aren't the result of biting, spells, ancient gods, curses, etc, it was a science experiment type deal. So, not paranormal in my book.
However, during the first 3-5 chapters I was sure that this would be a 5 star read for me. I was liking all 3 guys, I was liking the heroine, the premise was interesting, and the writing was engaging me. I was enjoying it so much that I had the paperback in my Amazon cart ready to purchase once I finished. Unfortunately as the story continued my enjoyment went down and I took the book out of my cart.
I still liked the 3 guys, they were different enough and had enough of their lives and backstories where I was engaged in what they would do. However that same consideration didn't translate to the heroine. We know these guys are attracted and drawn to her, we know she's drawn to each of them. And we get glimpses of her life but she just felt "there". As I was reading, I felt so detached from her, she'd talk about her parents, I think we got 1 phone call with them and a flashback but that was it. She'd go out with friends but then we wouldn't see any of the night just the aftermath. She kept talking about a wedding, she went but we didn't see anything of it or the interactions she had it. She went and is back...that's it. She was just there and while I was curious about what would happen with her and the guys, she could have been anyone and it wouldn't have made a difference.
There were a lot of times I was left confused about things and I didn't get any answers. Hopefully they are in the second book of this duet, I don't know if I'm going to bother reading it though, after the end I'm just eh on the duet. And I have too many books on my TBR to be reading books that I'm not excited about.
TW/CW: there is at least one instance of non-con by 1 of the heroes and a lot of manipulation of heroine's life/job/home/etc.
No rating because I have no idea how to rate this. All I can say is pay attention to the content warnings at the beginning of the book because the "love interests" introduce non-consent into every aspect of the MC's life - including her living situation, sex life, job, and marriage - and their methods extend to memory alteration and mind control. I can't think of a single redeeming trait for them, and the MC was a completely boring Mary Sue. I don't actually have answers for why I finished the book except maybe morbid curiosity, but I probably would have at least started book 2 if it were already out. However, it won't be out for another 9-10 months, so I'm calling it quits with this duet here.

I really enjoyed the start to Saige's story! This book expands so much on the precious duet and really heightened both. I love Saige, and her relationship with her men was written really well. The timeline jumps were better than the precious two books, but it still felt a little jarring to jump from one scene to the next. These characters had a lot more backstory and felt like the story was about them from the start. Ryder is very much in the background, though, and I kept waiting for more from him.
Great read, the writing style is so easy to read. Fantastic characters, loved Ryder, Maddox and Saige, Alex, not so much! And that ending, what a total g!t
