The Little Coven #1

A Little Green Magic

Rate this book
"You've shown about as much aptitude for magic as a human. It’s time to venture out and find your place in this world.”

Three years ago, those had been the damning words that banished Ivy Greene from the only home she’d ever known. She would have been completely alone if not for her friends and their determination to stay together. Unable to contribute magically to the coven, Ivy takes a job at a local garden store. She likes it there, she’s done well, and the view is unBEARably gorgeous.

Ivy is beautiful and everything that keeps Uriah up at night, but it’s against the law for humans and shifters to mate. Uriah Tremarc has kept his distance for two years, terrified his love for her will get her killed. In a random twist of fate, he discovers she’s a witch, and now all bets are off.

Ivy discovers she’s not as powerless as she’s been told, but the discovery comes with a warning.
Someone is coming for her.
Ivy only has A Little Green Magic, but she’s found her place in the world, and with Uriah by her side, she’s not about to let her mother’s murderer wreck her happy ever after.

4.5 Stars!!

Leave it to Isabel Wroth to bring me out of my book slump. Honestly, this author can do no wrong in my eyes. She has this uncanny ability to release a new paranormal book EXACTLY when I need it!

With this one, the romance was wrapped up fairly quickly. At the 25% the MC's are an established mated couple so everything after that was world building and solving the mystery of the heroines family. But I still loved it!!! As always, Ms Wroth writes the best devoted hero's and spunky heroines. And some REALLY great sex scenes!

Safety: Completely safe
No cheating, no other people after meeting, no OW/OM drama
H not a manwhore and stayed celibate for 2 years as soon as he sees the heroine.
Heroine not a virgin, also was celibate.
No push and pull. Hero didnt immediately go after the heroine because he thought she was a human, and his pack would have killed the heroine if he tried to mate with her. But once he does go after her, both H and h are 100000% in no holding back.
Epilogue with kids

The dude stalks her online for two years, built a dreamhouse based off her PINTEREST 😂😭😍🥵

I'm all for crazy ott romance, but that was just a passing comment? Um why was that only a fleeting moment on page? Please expound on the obsessive behaviors that would be deemed unhealthy irl but absolutely perfect in my romances.

They basically confess their crushes and move in right away. No build up, no tension, it's all laid out before a quarter of the way in. The rest of the book is them acting like an old married couple while she solves the "mystery" of her heritage. Except it's not really a mystery because the book keeps telling you what's about to happen before it happens. I got so bored! Please, why did they have to get together right away, why couldn't he show more of his crazy while she's working through her heritage drama??

I liked this story of a witch who hasn't come into her powers and her handsome bear mate. I like fantasy and this has a nice balance of real world/fantasy characters. There is a group of 5 friends who make up the coven, and I'm assuming that there will be a book about each of them. The witchy details were pretty slim, which is fine with me, I don't like witch stories most of the time. Not my favorite by this author, but good nonetheless.

I liked it. I liked their relationship but it was weird she had these moments where she contemplated to sleep with someone else but that was due to her powers and it was mentioned fleetingly, so not to worry about safety.

I do believe I found myself another favourite author. Because this little book was totally my jam.

Irreverent and sassy, sexy as hell, laugh out loud funny and sweeter than the best chocolate cake!

A witch with A Little Green Magic - Ivy - is silently stalked by an unBEARably gorgeous 'Care Bear' - Uriah. Until Uriah realises she's a witch and he's been quite the dumb-assed shifter for not staking a claim on her sooner, since his bear has already recognised her as his mate.
This is their love story, as proper as any magical story can be. With lots of action, both under and out of the sheets, badass magical powers, as well as a little angst and drama, complete with a past rearing it's ugly head, an intriguing mystery and a dark villain. But that is not what made me add it to my shelves of favourites. That particular fact is due to so much more!!

Snarky and sassy witches you can't help but love, especially when you get to witness their protectiveness and care for each other.

"If that hairy fucker hurt you, I will peel the fur from his bones and use it to mop up Callie's shit hole experiments!" Juliet hissed, her voice ice cold and filled with vengeful promise.'

Fearless, especially when pissed:

'Rowena, shaking her fist at the lion. "Get your hairy ass OFF. MY. ROOF."'

A two-ton bear with claws the size of machetes that's as sweet as the sweetest cake and then some! Determined to make all his mate's dreams come true and willing to deal with whatever came his way, so long as it meant being with her.

"It's a mate thing. I want to take care of you. When you're hungry, I want to feed you. When you're tired, I want to tuck you in the bed I made for us. When you're sad, I want to hold you until it doesn't hurt anymore. When you're scared I want you to know I'll always fight for you. For us."

Damn! This bear is just sigh-worthy purrrrrfect!! (*dreamy sigh*)

Here's his reaction when finding out how his mate had been offended:
"If some potion-tossing, wand-waving, limp-dick sonofabitch shows up here and has the balls to call my mate a dud, he'll be reincarnated as bear shit."

Don't say I didn't warn you about the irreverent part. :D

And don't even let me get started on the steamy scenes. They're freaking HOT HOT HOT. And quite possibly bear-sized in both quantity, intensity and size.

I think that by now I've given quite enough away so I'll end this little review with an advice.

If you're looking for a sweet, fun and steamy read that's both charming, irresistible and irreverently hot on all counts, do yourself a favour and pick this little book up.
It's neither serious nor deep but absolutely enchanting!
It's a keeper people. Spicy sweetness and fun on a page!

Happy reading everyone
and remember

At 43% I'm not sure if I'm going to finish this. It's just lot of sex, which I skip, and there isn't much else. :(

Upon finishing, I have to say that I appreciate that the author wanted to publish something this year, and that the current series that she'd already started weren't calling to her so she gave her readers something new. That being said, I think I forgot how smutty her writing is. It's definitely not for me. The last 25% were definitely the best, where there's an actual plot instead of the MCs just going at it like rabbits...er...bears. So two stars for that bit. :)

3.25

Steam:

Content: 3/5 - The scenes were a little light and there were a few too many gross descriptions like "his balls were boiling" 🤢 Also Ivy's always screaming when she comes. Like, why would you scream? Moan, yell, shout... whatever. It's a pet-peeve :/

Frequency: 2/5 - There might have been 3 scenes.

Romance: 2.5/5 - The pacing was real wonky and there was a lot of telling instead of showing.

We meet Ivy and Uriah when they've already known each other for a long time but at the beginning of their romance. Their connection was told to me but I didn't feel it. We dove right into love but it did not feel fulfilling. I'm typically okay with insta-love in a PR but this one felt weird and didn't vibe for me.

Plot: 3.75/5 - The pacing of the romance made the whole book feel unbalanced to me but the plot did bring it.

But alsp like 7 people with full names and descriptions are given in the first 4 or so pages and that threw me off as it was too much for me to retain. You do get to know the characters throughout the book and I can see why the author thought that was a good idea but it almost had me DNF right away.

Rereadable: Not for me.

Continuing with series/author: I did like the side characters and the plot so I might give it a shot.

Recommend to others: I'd say give it a shot. Most of my dislikes came down to personal preference.

Algo predecible, pero lo disfrute.

Vi las reseñas y se que se quejan del instalove, pero en la sinopsis te dice que es una historia con un shifter y obviamente hay mates, entonces es imposible que no haya instalove.

This story is sweet and stayed lighter than the darker and more disturbing places my brain wanted to take it. There's some humorous dialogue I really enjoyed, and there's a lot of angst, for those of you who enjoy that sort of thing. Cute concept, but nothing I got terribly excited about. This one just didn't suck me in and keep me there.

I am quite curious about all of the other members of the coven. They have the potential to have rich personalities and colorful stories, where Ivy is generic Nice with Impulse Issues and Uriah is a pretty run of the mill Smitten, Devoted Shifter. Totally fine if you're someone who wants a really safe read that feels familiar.

-------------------------------
Why is this on my Problematic Shelf?

* Lazy writing utilizing fatphobic stereotypes. There's a character in the beginning of the story who is lazy, greedy, gross, and intended to be an antagonist so...he's F A T.

... yeah.

* Language choices for insults ending in "tard," that are not bastard. As an almost-40-year-old, these are pretty popular with my peer group, especially the one used in here. But we're all old enough to know better and why any riff off
r*tard is not okay and should be avoided. We can find plenty of ways to insult people without being ableist.

This started out really good, and ended really good. The middle had me skimming a bit but I will say that ending really made up for it. So much that I ended up staying up until 1 AM to finish it. I will definitely be checking out more in the series.

Hero: Uriah is a bear shifter and this is a true mates story. That made him very possessive and protective of the heroine.

Heroine: Ivy is a witch who is part of a small coven. She starts out with very little power until some events unfold. She does not resist at all to Uriah when he claims she is his mate. The attraction and connection is mutual

Side Characters: There were plenty of side characters, and different species. I felt they added great things to the storyline, and I enjoyed each and every part they played in.

Storyline: Very interesting, once the action started, I was completely engrossed.

Ms Wroth did it again.

Perfect. This book was seriously wonderful and I am really looking forward to the next book. Another spectacular series to love! Seriously, it was so good I can't even find it in my heart to really miss my favorite kitty shifters. Isabel Wroth remains the only author whose shifters I can stand to read. And THIS world she just created is fascinating. Thank you Me Wroth. A sweet romance with no tension between the couple just for the sake of padding the word count is exactly what I needed!

This is my second book in days that was just so awful. Bad Insta-love, flat characters. Thus could have been decent and I see the set up for it but it was just executed poorly. DNF.

On the scale from 1 (a fantasy novel with some erotica sprinkled in for spice) to 10 (complete PWP), this book is about 8. Maybe 7.5.
It starts like a very self-jerkingcomforting story where a young woman who was considered a magical dud was kicked out of some kind of magical academy (Speaking of, the author clearly screwed something up with the main character's(characters'?) age here. She was at least 7 when she went to the 'school', and it was repeatedly mentioned that she had spend exactly 23 years living there before she was kicked out. Then, 'three years later', which should have made her 33, she is for some reason 'pushing 28'... The time line in this book is a big mess.) , but instead of having to go out in the world and fend for herself, all her powerful (and unique) friends leave with her, because she is special and everyone loves her, and create a coven that immediately becomes very successful. Then a big handsome shifter male falls in love with her and makes his whole life about her, catering to her every need. Then porn ensues. All the porn.
The first quarter of the book is just that.
Then, of course, the second shoe drops and we do get some plot... which is weak and weirdly held together by some nasty angsty stories, such as a woman who apparently wanted her own child so much she agreed to be raped by some creep and give up one of the children that would be born; or hunters who killed and skinned shifters, including children. (Personally, mixing porn with gore and angst kind of creeps me out.)
Overall, too much porn, too close to creepy, and too thin of a plot.

Also, I just saw that synopsis says 'no triggers'... I'm sorry, but if murder, children being skinned and women being raped and left hurting in the dirt are not 'triggers' I don't know what are. False advertising is very bad.

I really liked the idea of this book and the characters but the lack of any kind of development made me not want to continue with this series.

I liked the plot and the different things that were introduced in this book, but everything happened suddenly. Ivy isn’t able to use magic, then suddenly one day she can use it. The reason for this is explained later but she goes from knowing nothing to being able to do anything in a short amount of time.

Ivy and Uriah have known each other for about two years and haven’t really spoken to each other. Then one day, Uriah sees that Ivy is a witch and suddenly they are admitting feelings for each other and moving in together. It all happened so quickly with no development where the characters at least got to know each other that, for me, it ruined their relationship.

There were plenty of side characters but none of them were developed well and it felt like you were already supposed to know their personalities.

I liked the idea of this book but I thought that there should have been more development when it comes to the plot and the characters so that everything didn’t seem so abrupt.

Fun light romance

As can be expected from Ms Wroth, this was a well written story in an interesting new world! My complaint for the story is based in my own personal preferences when it comes to romances: I am not a fan of romances between people with previous histories. I like to see them meeting and falling in love and I just didn't get that. Although they were not together previously, they had already fallen in love (albeit seemingly unrequited) before we actually see them make things official. They were good together and I was fine with how quickly they came together and that there was no conflict in their relationship, but I just didn't get to fall in love alongside them which is a big let down for me. But! I loved the aspect of sisterhood here that you don't really get to see in this genre. I will read more of the series in the hopes that I'll get to see the "falling in love" part with some of the other members of the coven, because Ms Wroth is an amazing author.

This was an amazing novel. Ms. Wroth does a superb job of balancing world-building and detail while moving the plot along. She is my second favorite author for paranormal romance after Cynthia Eden. I thought this was a short cutesie read and didn’t read the blurb too much. Instead, I dipped into this world with a toe and by the middle plunged in headfirst. I love the characters, the world is built and the possible ways the next books could evolve. I really enjoyed it. It has a little of everything; witches, shifters, fae, family, and an evil bad guy. I liked that the women are bad-ass powerful, but they still treat their men with respect and love. There’s no fighting between the sexes here and the woman aren’t total ditzes. They are smart and don’t take stupid risks just to prove they are strong. The story kept my attention and that’s difficult to do. Overall I really glad that I picked this book and enjoy every second of it, can’t wait to dive more into the world of witches.

A new series that seems promising. Ivy is a witch without powers (supposedly- oh no- spoiler!) and she finds her mate in Uriah. What a name, right?? I only remember it because his initials are UT (part of the story) so it makes it easier.

Anyway, its a bit of insta-love since it goes right into their relationship despite them having the hots for each other for 2 years prior. Featuring their interactions beforehand would have made it a better foundation.

He's a bear shifter and she has a mysterious past, so this is more of solving a mystery while they have lots of sex. And they have a lot. It was a bit much in proportion with the rest of the story.

The rest of the story is building the next books in the series- one for each of the "sisters" in this coven. They all share a past and love and support each other completely. Its fun hearing all the things they hate about each other just like family. There are fairies, brownies, witches, shifters and all kinds of interesting characters.

Personally, I am looking forward to Rowena's story, so I will keep following the series.

I really enjoyed this one! I adored the H in this story. Uriah, a giant bear shifter is all in from the first time he spots Ivy. He thinks she is human at first and is forced to stay away from her. But he just can’t leave her alone. As soon as he finds out she is actually a witch, he is unstoppable in his pursuit and boy was it good! Who doesn’t love a broody, grumpy big cuddly bear? He was so romantic and caring, I love that in a man that is alpha in all other ways. I also really enjoyed Ivy. She has to deal with a lot of things at the same time, but keeps a level head. The other witches are hilarious and and some spunk to the story. The book did seem to drag a little bit in the middle, but not enough to put the book away. I missed sleep because of this book, I guess that says enough :-). Loved the long epilogue chapter. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such a cute story. Ivy is a green witch and such a delicate sweetheart. Not physically delicate, but the kind of emotional delicate that comes with being told you’re nothing.
Uriah is a bear shifter and he’s looking for his mate. His mate that can not be a human according to their laws. His bear could give two s@$$@ about the laws.
They are adorable and I loved that he, as a shifter, never forced himself on his mate and never ordered her into any sexual situation she wasn’t comfortable with.
I also love that there were no love triangle situations or sisters fighting over men situations.
This is such a happy family situation and I love it.

Dnf 41%

This author is either 5 star or dnf for me.

This is the 2nd series I've dnf'd and it's si frustrating when i know she has 5 star books in her.

So heres the problem, ivy gets with her bear mate virtually at the start and up to 41% its like a mills n boon soppy romance with a bit of supernatural witch n shifter thrown in. The problem is, it's boring as hell. Seriously. The sex scenes are meh n I ended up skipping. The dialogue is corny and the plot story, well my kindle says I have another 3 hrs n 14 mjns of this shit. About what ffs? 3 hours of this? The weak arsed plot that is so slow n drawn out?

No thanks, im done

A sweet read.

What more can I say? This is a sweet PNR that can either be read as a stand alone, or the first book in a series. Ivy’s story had it’s ups and downs as she struggles through her trials, but her relationship with Uriah was solid (if a tad Instalove-y... sort of), and the bond she shares with her sisters was amazing. I won’t mention any other characters as I don’t want to spoil the surprises, but this was just a quick fun PNR that would be perfect for those times when you don’t want too much going on with your storylines.

The cover is a joke, really.

But the story was delicious! The first chapters were absolutelly lovely! The friendship and the "found family that is actually a coven", so nice and heart warming.
And the depict of magic, different kinds, and the importance of them all. All so good.

Very minor things bothered me, like the insta love and his space kinda going above the sisters. But then, the next scene it was all about the coven again, so alright, I can live with that.

Just upset that it will be a long time before we have the entire collection.

Beautiful gem of a book!

I love this author’s books and was surprised to see a new series. I thought I wanted more from her other series but this book hit all the feels for me. Lovely romance with a drool worthy HERO and a posse of best friends that I can’t wait to read about. This hit the spot of making me happy in this nightmare of the year 2020. I really enjoyed this book! The world was magical, the characters thoughtful and diverse. Yes, the relationship moved a lil quick - but it totally works. I loved that the story was more in depth than others in the same genre and it actually took a few days for me to read unlike others which finish at 60%. Cannot wait to read the next installment from this author! (about to see what else they've written for me to binge)

A whole new world

I love this new series so much! It has the marks of the author's previous work; the detailed world-building, the strong back stories, quirky yet loveable side characters..But with just a little more whimsy and fairy-tale likeness. Exactly what I needed right about now. I am looking forward to the next adventure for this little coven..if only I had a cuddly bear to snuggle with till then. ;)

I liked the story, it was unique and held my attention. There are some small plot holes, nothing drastic though. I felt that Uriah & Ivy were cute together, though I think I liked him more than her at times. I like to feel that the fated mate thing is not the only reason couples get together in paranormal romance books, but a helping factor, this book wasn't quite as bad as some of the "fated mate" stuff can be in other books as I felt the attraction between them before they realized it was a fated mate thing. I would definitely read book 2 when it comes out.
