The Alpha Pack #1-6

The Alpha Pack

Rate this book
Sam has no idea how he's supposed to handle this.

He's always known that he'd have to marry an alpha someday—he's an omega, that's just the way of things—but never could he have imagined that he'd find himself mated to a whole pack of them.

And not just alphas. Alpha werewolves.

How is that even supposed to work? A single alpha can wear out an omega if they're not careful. How is Sam supposed to handle six of them?

Sam has no choice but to find out...

(This 77,000 word book is the novelization of the Alpha Pack six part serial. It features an inexperienced omega who finds himself mated to a group of kinky alphas. The story contains BDSM, knotting, rough sex, pain-play, domination, leather worship and much more. Do not read if any of these kinks bother you!)

Loved the kink, but apparently just too non-consensual for my tastes

The author warns that those who do not appreciate BDSM and related kinks should not read this. I've lived and loved all of the types of kinks in the book. Heck, I am a total sucker additional kinks that don't make it into print, but I hate novels and/or stories with any kind of sympathetic/compelling characters that come across as non-consensual as the initial Saturday night scene struck me.

While I expect and sometimes appreciate non-consensual (e.g. rape) in strictly erotic stories, I see more romantic/story/relationship erotica in published works. When published stories veer more towards the harder-core (and non- or dubiously-consensual erotica, or basically rape), and I definitely appreciate (and I guess expect) a clear mention of non-consensual theme (or at the very least dubious consent) in the description.

I was disappointed it was just a long, tedious switch off thing. That they just each had him for a day.

I also could have really done without the golden showers, but I'm going to assume that's on me for missing a warning.

6 days with 6 alphas

Sam is on Omega, living with his uncle until he is married off, but he never expects to be given to an Alpha pack of 6 werewolves.
The story takes place over a week, but in that time, Sam and the Reader don't just learn more about the Alphas and all their wonderful and varied kinks, but it feels as though Sam's influence helps to bring the other men together as a family unit. Strangely heartwarming for erotica, but a book I have read over and over.

Fantastic alpha/omega story

Omega Sam is purchased for a motley pack of six alpha werewolves (although no shifting in this story). To make it fair, each alpha’s assigned a specific day for 24hrs to do with him as they please.
I really enjoyed the progression of the story as we learn about each character through Sam’s time with them, as well as snippets of forethought, planning, and interpersonal interactions among the alphas away from Sam.
Each alpha has his own desires and so the celestial smorgasbord of kink and fetishes is sublime. Everything from forniphilia to primal play, water sports to fisting, you’ll most certainly find an experience to pique your interest - or, like me you’ll adore and bask in all of it.
Really enjoyed this and will be looking for more from the authors.

Awful

If you enjoy torture and abuse without complaint from a flat boring Sub then you’ll enjoy this author. I could’ve enjoyed this book. Sam was sold and then used as a sex slave for 6 days a week without being aloud to have an opinion or even have it count when he says no. Every one the of the alphas treat Sam poorly to a different degree. They have the philosophy that an omega will not object to abuse if it makes the alpha happy. This book had lots of hot sex. And all the alphas had in depth personalities with interests and dislikes beyond sex. Sam on the other hand was very flat. He just lay there and took whatever without complaint. And that was boring. I would’ve enjoyed this better if he had objected to some things. If he had a favorite book or movie genre. He’s an adult and he’s written as nothing more than sex toy for 6 insatiable men. This seems to be a trend in BDSM type “romance” novels. A Dom and background characters with depth and then a Sub that’s very flat and written as a slave never objecting. It’s very boring.

Good Read

The story is well written. I like most of the sexual encounters some are just not my cup of tea. The characters are not well defined but it is a lot of characters for a book. I would like to see another book about this pack so u can see more about SAM's life with his pack.

Sam, an omega, have been sold to an Alpha pack, not knowing at all what he was getting himself into. He wonders how he will survive the claiming and feel vulnerable.

He is schedule to spend a day with each of the size alpha and have a day off to “rest.”
The 6 takes turn on him and he end-up in pain and pass-out. He spends the book not knowing if he is repulse or turn on, which is quite worrying. He does what ever the others told him to do, since "this is what omega are supposed to do".

There is not much character’s development, it is a mix match a lot of kinks and smut scenes. None of the 6 alpha are likeable, only Jack he high school senior seems the more caring in the bunch.

If possessive behavior, sweat kink, spanking, sadistic borderline abuse, hitting and watersport are in your kinks list, maybe you will enjoy this book.

I personally did not and prefer my A/B/O books with omega that possess more back bones and alpha that are not possessive controlling asshole and does not take no for an answer. The whole “you will learn to like it” is a trope that I am fed up with in erotic fantasy.

Give me a shifter mm story and I am happy. Multiple consenting mates, fine. Consenting adults enjoying love in their own way, no problem. There has to be characters that make me feel. There needs to be more than just day after day of sex without feeling and I as a reader never experienced feelings. I did not get any real "pack" commitment among the alphas. I felt no emotional commitment to Sam except for "Mine" while being claimed. The sex scenes were boring. I thought that would have been impossible. Sam had not given his consent to all that happened to him. There was non-consensual sex and that troubled me.

I admit that when I read a menage story I want all of the participants to be equally committed to each other. I accepted that that would not happen in this story. The twist on the Pack dynamics intrigued me as I love to discover a new twist to the shifter mythology. I was disappointed. I do not like giving one star. I understand that it is not east for an author to put him/herself out there and I appreciate the effort. Sorry this series is not for me.

There's a trick to writing good dub-con and these authors definitely did not figure it out.

They somehow managed to write about six super hot Alpha studs and every single one of them is a dominant, callous and creepy in a definitely not sexy way. Fine, then the hotness surely comes from the Omega's internal struggle of being made to somehow like what is being done to him right?

Nope. The Omega's perspective is limited to being snarky until he has sex, which is when he usually only gets confused and repeatedly asks himself why he is enjoying being fucked.

This might have worked better as fanfiction where you at least have a built-in relationship to the characters from the get-go. But then again fanfiction has this trope down to a science and the weakest PWP is sexier than this.

bdsm isn't about abuse or abusing power someone weilds. it's about trust too. this doesn't seem right at all. there is difference between behaving gruffly and as*holish. unfortunately alphas in this book are part of the second group :(

This was a fun read for me. The sex was hot and kinky. The prose flows easily and the story progresses without too much introspection. It’s a straight forward easy read.

I can't even express how revolting I found this book.
Right now, after giving up 75% in (yes I stuck it out that long since I was hoping it would get better, but instead it just got worse), I feel nauseous.

Now, hear me out. This book is a veritable kink-fest, and I don't have a problem with that at all. To each their own and all that. No, my problem is the incessant non-con.

This is ABO. There's the Omega, Sam, who gets sold off to an Alpha pack of no less than six werewolves. So obviously there would be a seriously skewed power dynamic, and I was prepared for dubious consent - which I assumed would turn into all the consent and subsequent love. I guess I'm a romantic like that.
But that's not what this book is about at all. I'm not sure what Heart and Horne tried to convey with this story. Maybe some sort of sexual awakening of Sam's? How Sam at first is entirely overwhelmed only to finally revel in his new life as a sex toy? If that was the case, they didn't succeed.

Instead, this story is a day-to-day description of how the Alphas strip Sam of his free will, making him a slave under their pheromones, using him as an object to satisfy their own twisted (well, that's a matter of opinion of course) lusts. Sam loses his personality. His own wishes and wants are stripped away and replaced by the Alphas' various wants. The Alphas' uses Sam's Omega nature to erase his personality until he's nothing but a walking and talking sex puppet for them to use. Sam's need to please and submit to his Alphas makes him accept and "enjoy" everything they dish out. It's disgusting.

Granted, since I didn't finish it, it's possible that the sickening way the Alphas extinguish Sam as a person actually stops and they redeem themselves somehow in the last quarter of the book. But somehow I doubt it. When I gave up, only 4 of the 6 had gotten their own day with Sam, to use as they wished. And no. 4 was using Sam as a punching bag - literally, after having stepped on him for a while. And no. 5 was planning to lock Sam into a special office chair that would place Sam's face under the Alpha's a**, so he could use Sam as furniture while working, with the perks of smothering Sam - among other things.

I can safely say that I won't be reading anything more by Heart or Horne.

Review of installments 1-4: Promising, fun erotica, available through Kindle Unlimited. There’s just enough characterization and hints of story to carry the reader smoothly between one raunchy and exuberant sex scene and the next. There’s a nice balance between Sam’s developing personality and his instinctive omega reactions. He’s shared by six alphas, a different one each day of the week, each with his own particular kinks.
I mentioned the bit about Kindle Unlimited because the book is broken into short chapters, each “sold” as a separate book, and outside KU pricing (“free”) I don’t feel each is a $2.99 read. If you don’t have KU, you may want to wait for the series to finish and be bundled into a single volume.

I love the serial (though I really do hate serial's and usually wait until they are all out before collecting). This is a longer book than the others and I could not wait. MAX. *sigh* He's the alpha I was most excited to spend the day with and he did not disappoint me at all in any way. Hunter - eh. That's NMK (not my kink) at all - objectification is not my thing so that I could take or leave...but glad to see it represented as it's not so common a kink.

Oh and I think I've read every book (currently available) by this author. Seriously. EVERY. Book. He/she just completely gets me. Not sure why some are no longer available...but they are an insta buy for me!

I liked this but it also left me a little disappointed. It had just enough of a plot that I wouldn't quite say it's PWP, but I was expecting more. Sam, a human omega, is married (sold off) to a werewolf and expected to service all 6 members of his husband's pack. After the first night when they all claim him, he then spends the rest of the week with each of his alphas having some pretty kinky sex. I was hoping he would have had a stronger connection with at least one of them, though he does come close. But, at the end of the week he's pretty satisfied with his pack.

I wish it had been a little longer so we could see him form a more meaningful bond with the pack.

I liked this story about 75% of the book! I loved seeing the interactions of Sam with his 6 alphas individually. I am glad that the 2 opposing forcing against the alphas were dealt with. My only problem was that the last 25% felt rushed and that it automatically went to HEA for Sam and his status as the omega to 6 men. I would have liked learning about the last 2 alphas as well as seeing all 7 of them together on Sam's day off!

I DNF about a quarter of the way in.

I thought this would be like the KA Merikan MMMMM series and thought I’d give it a go, but it was apparent straight away it’s extremely different. I didn’t like the dubious consent vibes (I don’t mind it from time to time if it’s done right) it just made me uncomfortable and I couldn’t enjoy it past the scene with the Alpha who was into pain. Odd since I’m usually into that but I think it was just the way it came across, threw me off.

Blah. Not hot and erotic enough for PWP but not enough relationship development for romance. Very weak pack relationship for a shifter story too.

2.5 stars; I promise I was trying to be nice

So, here's the thing. I'm conflicted about this one because on the one hand I did read this in its entirety and I was somewhat invested to see how this was going to play out. But on the other... Mama, it's like this man has never heard of an editor.

Nice things first because I'm always a b*tch when it comes to Mr Heart. The alphas were distinct. I could tell them all a part from each other and they had their own personalities. Even the twins. Sam, on the other hand, didn't have a quiver of a personality. I can't even call him a caricature or a cardboard cutout because we learned nothing about him outside of he's a omega and therefore completely ruled and controlled by his hormones and need to obey his alphas. He had no wants, no dreams, and no goals. He was a name on a page and nothing more. I'm supposed to be nice, oh my god!

What are some other nice things I can say? Um, the smut was hot for the most part. The chair one was weird but that's me my own issues. Some of it did feel rushed but I'm guessing that's because there was so much smut that if you gave all the scenes time to marinate, they would probably get pretty tedious. Plus there were some cases where it was obvious the kink was the focal point, not the smut.

I also like how this wasn't too long and the pacing was pretty good. Just wish at some point Sam could have been given a personality trait but whatever. Again, I swear this is me being nice!

I will say that while all the alphas are very distinct from each other, I think that had this just been Jack, Max, and David it would have been better. I get why they were all there and it did work and come together but I think three alphas is his sweet spot. He ends up doing it in later books and it works really well. See, I told you I could be nice.

Now for some not so nice things. I try really hard not to talk about things like spelling and grammar because it's indie. Even The most seasoned editors doing multiple passes are going to miss things, it's inevitable. That being said, this was literally hard to read. There were times where the names kept getting mixed up so I literally didn't know who was doing what or who was talking. I read this to turn my brain off, not to play Clue meets Guess Who. There were also factoids and character details that were completely dropped for seeming no reason. Like the fact that Jack no longer plays football and was sad about it. But then all of a sudden is going to practice, on a Saturday no less. Gurl, you're in high school, calm down. Or how David's entire personality changed in the end. Or whatever those last two chapters were. Seriously, what was that? Was that supposed to be something and then it just wasn't so it was labeled epilogue. Because an epilogue I promise you that was not.

Do you see why conflicted? Because I know this man gets better at writing. And I know he read reviews and took the things that people really liked and just ran with it and made it something really good. I know because I've read those books and I really enjoyed them. This is a stepping stone to him becoming a better writer so I can excuse a lot when it comes to the setting and descriptions or lack there of I should say. What's hard to overlook is how horrifically edited this is because it genuinely made the book hard to read. For that, it's 2.5 stars. But I was really mean so I round it up. It's the nicest thing I can do.

The Alpha Pack is a standalone book that was first published as a serial. I want to state bluntly that this book is not for everyone—there is a werewolf poly relationship with a lot of emphasis on kink. I absolutely love this book, but I also know this book is fiction with pure fantasy-type BDSM and kink. This book is not a BDSM primer and it is not meant to reflect real sex practices. If you need that type of realism in your book then look elsewhere. For other readers, like me, who want something delicious they can indulge in, then pick this book up immediately.

This book is incredibly hot and has some of the most delicious and delightful kinky sex scenes I’ve had the joy of reading this year. D.J. Heart is a master at writing wonderful and unique sex while also developing an emotional connection between all the characters. Sam is a human omega who ends up married and mated to an alpha pack of werewolves. Each werewolf has a certain type of kink and bedroom style they prefer and this book focuses on Sam learning everyone’s preferences while getting used to his new life. As the story develops, there is also some background plot that shows how close and loyal the pack is with each other. I would LOVE a sequel to this book because I feel like we only just got to know all the characters and I’m obsessed with their pack and romantic relationships and the dynamics between everyone.

I highly recommend this book and it’s one I’ve re-read multiple times with a lot of delight.

From bad to worse

This book started off good and then, twenty pages in, went downhill so fast. I have read D. J. Heart before and I really enjoyed his work, however, this book just made me lose my trust in Heart as an author that I would want to read again. The beginning of the book started by having tension and buildup and immediately broke it and then spent the next thirty pages making every character completely one dimensional.

I know it’s easy to be titillated by having six men to rail you but sometimes it’s good to cut some needless characters. We could have done without the twins. If even your main character remarks that another character wasn’t memorable, then you probably can cut that unmemorable character.

I love explicit romance as much as the next reader, but it really ruins the story when the characters are nothing more than sex machines. I don’t mean that they have a lot of sex I mean that they are nothing more than entities that have sex. I was also kind of disgusted just by the way that omega‘s are treated. The writers basically made them paid-for sex toys which was a shame. With the schedule’s where they each had Sam for a day, Sam’s basically a prostitute on call. The book was unbearable and impossible to finish.

A lot of love for one Omega

Reading about Sam’s first week with his 6 Alphas was a yummy treat. It’s like he has 6 very different husbands fulfilling different kinky needs. Each Alpha also came with their own issues and insecurities. I like reading about the relationship between the younger Alphas and the older Alphas in the pack. It’s rare to read about the inner workings of a pack in this genre, normally it’s all about the Alpha’s relationship with the main Omega character only. Like other reviewers had mentioned, this is not based on reality and so some of the kinks are a bit too intense IMO but they were written as consensual between both parties. I sincerely hope the author will add to this storyline because this book does seem to be an introduction of each Alpha with a small side story of drama. At this point, I feel Sam is just getting to know his new Alphas. I didn’t feel the love between the characters yet and I would like to know more about the characters too! There was a few places where the name of the character would be incorrect, so that was annoying. Overall I enjoyed this book and hope the author will write more books like this.

A heart-warming smutty bdsm alpha overflowing........

Honestly when I first started this book I read thru the first 40 pages and said nope I can't do it and wasn't gonna read the rest of it. I can handle hardcore and I've read a ton of DJ Hearts novels but the claiming scene was almost too much for me. I gave it a couple days and thought about all the other subs in the author's previous novels and excluding Meisha, every other sub always enjoyed what was being done. I might not have understood the kink but my thing is as long as everyone is consensual and getting their rocks off I'm not one to judge. So keeping that in mind I decided to read further. I'm really glad I did. Once again DJ Heart is able to intertwine nasty kinky smutty painful and smexy with intricate character development that had me so engaged I couldn't put the book down. Now this author is not for the faint of heart if kinky to you is leaving the lights on during intercourse THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR YOU!!!! But if you like or at least can tolerate something that would make a seasoned hooker blush then seriously this is a good book I would highly recommend.

Hot!

D.J. Heart does erotica better than most. She is able present raw sexual experiences in a manner that is sensual as opposed to gratuitous or tawdry. I know very little about the community which Ms. Heart taps into. She presents such things in a respectful and educational manner making it very clear all is consensual.

This story is about a somewhat naïve human omega “purchased” (dowry) by an alpha werewolf pack consisting of six alphas, all of whom are ultimately mated to the young omega. The erotica story reveals how each alpha is able to have both his and the omega’s needs met. Each alpha has a very different approach. I initially had no interest in reading this book but finally, after reading most of Ms. Heart’s other novels, decided to give it a go and I’m so glad I did. Kudos to her ability to share a wealth of knowledge in a manner that holds the reader’s attention from start to finish.

For a DJ Heart book this had more plot than I was expecting, DJ heart always delivers high heat, kinky reads that can push some readers to explore new kinks and this was no exception however it did show some character and pack dynamic development which I enjoyed. I always enjoy a good MMM+ read and this had all the fun spicy scenes I expected, I initially thought this might lean towards a darker read it actually went in the opposite direction where all the members of the pack had a HEA with their omega.

Giving it a 3 as it did feel a bit rushed, with more MCs my personal preference is to have more chapters to help each character development and to give the reader time to immerse themselves fully into all of the different relationships and group dynamics but o still enjoyed this read

Needs an editor

The names are constantly mixed up making it a confusing read

There's plenty of kink but the author doesn't know true bdsm culture as no negotiations are done. Consent is questionable at best

Plot is minimal and feels tagged on
Like why do they need to be werewolf, that whole thing just feels meh

The small conflict that shakes the plot is weak and kinda uninteresting

If you want to read about a few not often written about kinks
Like golden showers
Hunan furniture
Trampling
Etc then sure

Just be warned that no negotiations take place

Personally I also don't like a pushover omega or such a splintered pack
