Ex-legionair Klinkhamer schreef met Gehoorzaam als een hond een zinderend boek over het Vreemdelingenlegioen! Zijn haarscherpe observaties, de harde directheid van zijn taal en de rake typeringen maken dat er van deze autobiografische roman een fascinerende, rauwe kracht uitgaat. Klinkhamer beschrijft het bestaan in de gemeenschap van outcasts die de legionnaires zijn, hun verveling, hun wreedheid, hun angst en hun elementaire driften.

Er zijn in het Nederlands geen boeken die Gehoorzaam als een hond kunnen evenaren in razernij, smeerlapperij en obsceniteit. Maar evenmin zijn hier boeken verschenen die Klinkhamers werk kunnen evenaren in spanning en intensiteit waar het de beschrijving van de gruwelen van de oorlog en een bepaald soort mannelijkheid betreft.

Dutch author mostly known in his home country for murdering his wife, burying her in his backyard and write a book about four possibilities of how it could have happened.

Klinkhamer's mother was a house maid in the Netherlands of a border agent. After his parents divorce he was sent to Austria, when he was three. When Austria was occupied by the Russians, Klinkhamer witnessed the rape of his aunt and the abuse and chaining of his uncle by allied soldiers.

After the war he was sent back to the Netherlands, where he became active in the criminal underground. Where was mostly join as a proxy owner of assets of criminals. At the age of 19 he joined the foreign legion, which he deserted 2 years later.

In 1961 he married, the marriage produced two sons and a daugher. He got divorced and married again in 1980. In 1987 he lost most of his money on the stock exchange which also caused problems in his marriage.

In 1991 according to Klinkhamer was he treatened with a crowbar by his wife. During an argument he hit her in the head with the crowbar. Not wanting to go to jail he buried the body in his yard.

Klinkhamer soon became a suspect of the murder, but the police didn`t find any evidence. In 2000 the new occupants of his home, dicovered the dead body of his wife and Klinkhamer was sentenced 6 years in prison.
