Kimberly McCreight YES! (And technically it's been 11 years....but who's counting?) Xx
Kimberly McCreight That's a really interesting question--it wasn't any publishing milestones, though those are helpful reminders. I think you become a writer when you finally realize you have no choice but to do it. Because writing isn't a thing you are doing, it is who you are. All best wishes, Kim
Kimberly McCreight RA was an adult book, but certainly crosses over. I find those categories to be a bit arbitrary sometimes (The Outliers trilogy was published by Harper Teen and so is YA). It doesn't change the way I write at all, though I did try to swear a little less in the YAs. ;)
Kimberly McCreight My life always informs my books--in ways good and bad!
Kimberly McCreight Sue THEY ARE ALL HARD!!!!

But I think the trilogy was the hardest--sustaining a world over three books is no joke!

Best wishes, Kim
Kimberly McCreight Haha! That was one of my favorite parts about writing it! Getting those details right. I am for sure considering writing a sequel to A GOOD MARRIAGE! And good luck on the bar!
Kimberly McCreight Hi Denise!

Thrilled to say it's in development at Amazon as a series, with Nicole Kidman's Blossom Film's producing and David Farr (Hanna, The Night Manager) writing the screenplay. Thanks for reading and so glad you enjoyed it.

Kimberly McCreight Maybe! I do think there's space for a follow up to A GOOD MARRIAGE--the end of the book does in many ways represent a new beginning. So, we'll see...I am so glad you enjoyed it! All best, Kim
Kimberly McCreight Hi Rylie! So sorry it's taken me so long to answer you--there was something wrong with my author dashboard and I couldn't access your question.

But YES! There is actually news on BOTH film/TV version of RECONSTRUCTING AMELIA and WHERE THEY FOUND HER--unfortunately I can't share any of it quite yet. But I hope to be able to soon. I'm very excited about it, though, and I'm so glad to hear that you are looking forward to it too. Also, will be news very soon -- title, cover etc about my new adult book coming May 2020 from Harper. It's set in Park Slope like Amelia and I'm very excited about it. Hope you have a wonderful summer! All best, Kim
Kimberly McCreight Hi Heather! Apologies that it's taken me so long to reply--somehow I missed this! I'd say read WHERE THEY FOUND HER of mine next as it is most similar in tone to AMELIA. And I have a new adult book coming soon! Just finishing it up (which is how I missed your post). This one will be set back in Park Slope like RECONSTRUCTING AMELIA though involves the unsolved murder of a mother. I, of course, love Jodi Picoult as well. Haven't started A SPARK OF LIGHT, but can't wait to! All best wishes, Kim
Kimberly McCreight Hi Wiley! (Not sure how I am only just seeing this) But yes, Amelia has been optioned by HBO and Nicole Kidman and is in active development--so the answer is yes, and hopefully soon! All best wishes, Kim
Kimberly McCreight Hi Lauren! Thanks for the question. And YES! My next book is an adult thriller set back in Park Slope like my first novel Reconstructing Amelia. And I am well into work on it. As soon as the title and all are finalized I'll be making it all public. I'm really excited about it. Hope you have a wonderful New Year! All bets, KIm
This question contains spoilers... (view spoiler)
Kimberly McCreight Yes! I have a new adult book coming out after the final book in THE OUTLIERS trilogy. It will be set back in Park Slope like RECONSTRUCTING AMELIA. All the best! Kim
Kimberly McCreight How I survived. (And, yeah, for not, I'm just gonna leave that there.)
Kimberly McCreight Hi Fred! I'm just writing a summary of my next adult book for my editor today as a matter of fact. No details I can share yet, but know that I am already getting to work and it will be out from Harper Books soon. Best wishes and thanks for asking, Kim
Kimberly McCreight Nick and Amy Dunne from Gone Girl.

Even on our very worst day, they make me feel better about my marriage.
Kimberly McCreight Hi Eden! And YES I will be at the Gaithersburg Festival on 5.20. I'd love to meet you.

Best wishes,
Kim
Kimberly McCreight Focus on something small--one scene, one exchange--rather than the whole story, or (even worse) a whole novel. That's overwhelming even when you've written several books. Beyond that daily word counts and a schedule work well. As does fear---I find fear to be an excellent motivator.

Best wishes. And now, WRITE ON!
