Light Bringer was my most anticipated book of the year. I couldn't wait to find out what Darrow, Virginia, Sevro, and the others would do next, how they would handle Lysander, Atalantia, and Atlas. Unfortunately, this book missed the mark for me. It was still a great book, but I found it a bit...underwhelming. With that being said though, I think that this book needed to do what it did - it closed off plot threads and laid the foundation for the Light Bringer was my most anticipated book of the year. I couldn't wait to find out what Darrow, Virginia, Sevro, and the others would do next, how they would handle Lysander, Atalantia, and Atlas. Unfortunately, this book missed the mark for me. It was still a great book, but I found it a bit...underwhelming. With that being said though, I think that this book needed to do what it did - it closed off plot threads and laid the foundation for the final battles of Red God.

My thoughts are kind of all over the place in regard to this book, so I'm going to list them below:

- I loved how Pierce focused on relationships in this book - Virginia and Darrow, Sevro and Darrow, Darrow and Cassius, etc. That very much felt like a return to the original Red Rising trilogy.
- The fact that the book spent most of the Rim was a nice surprise.
- I understand that Darrow was feeling lost after Dark Age, but the fact that he relied on a book to "find his path" bothered me. To me, that felt very out of character. In Morning Star, Darrow stressed how important his friends are to him and how they helped him heal from his encounter with the Jackal. In Light Bringer, Darrow still seeks out his friends, but it seems like he relies on that book to heal him more than them. Now, they were all going through things so it makes sense that he wouldn't want to bother them with his thoughts, but still.
- I really enjoyed learning more about Diomedes. I hoped that he would be in this book more than he was in the previous two, and I was not disappointed.
- Virginia continues to be an incredibly strong character and she remains one of my favorites.
- I wish we could've seen more of Darrow and Cassius' training sessions.

- Lysander needs to be dealt with. I have disliked him since Iron Gold, but this book just solidified that Lysander is vile and an awful person.

Although this book left me a bit disappointed, it was still a great book and I'm looking forward to Red God and seeing how this saga concludes.
