Elaine’s award-winning historical novels are about the lives of settlers in the Thirteen Colonies who remained loyal to Britain during the American Revolution. She used the backdrop of the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Rebellion of 1837 for page-turning fictional tales where the main characters face torn loyalties, danger, and personal conflicts. Her Loyalist trilogy is comprised of The Loyalist’s Wife, The Loyalist’s Luck and The Loyalist Legacy. The newly released prequel to this series is The Loyalist’s Daughter where 14-year-old Lucinda Harper and her father witness the dumping of tea chests into Boston’s harbour, an act which precipitates the American Revolutionary War.

We're taking a special group called the Authors and History Tour who will be part of my group talks on the history of each area we visit. Specifically I'll talk about the history relating to the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 and our ports of call. I can hardly wait!(less)

In the second book, The Loyalist's Luck, I've used more names just for my own and my family's pleasure. John Garner was a real person; Lucy was not. William Garner is based on my ancestor as is his wife, Catherine Cain. In fact they were my great great great grandparents! Again 98% of their story in the books is fiction. The larger events in the trilogy are historical and I love to imagine how my own relatives endured and survived in the turbulent times of the American Revolution and the War of 1812 and afterwards.(less)

I like meeting people and talking with them and learning from them. One way I do that is by going to events and having a booth to sell my books. This past weekend my writer husband and I displayed at two different book and arts fairs. We met people and we sold books!

When people approach my book table, I wear a friendly smile to wel

Barbara Kyle
“Isabel Valverde was coming home. The brief, terrible letter from her brother had brought her across five thousand miles of ocean, from the New World to the Old, and during the long voyage she thought she had prepared herself for the worst. But now that London lay just beyond the next bend of the River Thames, she dreaded what awaited her. The not knowing – that was the hardest. Would she find her mother still a prisoner awaiting execution? Horrifying though that was, Isabel could at least hope to see her one last time. Or had her mother already been hanged?”
Barbara Kyle, The Queen's Gamble

Barbara Kyle
“Fenella Doorn watched the unfamiliar wreck of a ship ghosting into her bay. Crippled by cannon fire, she thought. What else could do such damage? The foremast was blown away, as well as half the mainmast where a jury rig clung to the jagged stump, and shot holes tattered the sails on the mizzen. And yet, to Fenella’s experienced eye the vessel had an air of defiance. Demi-cannons hulked in the shadowed gun ports. This ship was a fighter, battered but not beaten. With fight still in her, was she friend or foe?”
Barbara Kyle, The Queen's Exiles

Barbara Kyle
“Snow crunched under the feet of three cloaked figures – a queen, her lady, and a gravedigger – as they hurried along a moonlit path in Windsor Castle's lower ward. The gravedigger pushed a cart that held a slab of marble, his pick and shovel, and some straw. When the trio reached the steps of St. George's Chapel, Queen Mary stopped. She turned her head, pushing aside the fur of her hood, and a gust of wind needled her with crystallized snow. She looked back at her attendants. Was she wrong to trust them with this night's work?”
Barbara Kyle, The King's Daughter

Margaret Wise Brown
“Quietness is an essential part of all awareness. In quiet times and sleepy times, a child can dwell in thoughts of his own, and in songs and stories of his own.”
Margaret Wise Brown

“You only have to forgive once. To resent, you have to do it all day, every day.”

Elaine Cougler Hi, Majenta! Woodstock, Ontario is across the lake from Erie. We're between Toronto and London. Thanks for all the action on my book reviews. I'm such a reader and finally decided to add all the reviews from over the last twenty years. It's taking me a while!
Great week as I've sent my third book to the interior designer in preparation for its publication in the fall. (The Loyalist Trilogy) And we're finally getting rain after a very dry 3 months. All best!

Majenta Hello, Elaine! Friend Request Accepted, thanks for Requesting! Congratulations on your books! Interesting that you'd contact me today, during the anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festival....where is Woodstock, Canada? I'm glad to hear of its existence, and yours! I hope you're having a good week. Happy reading, writing, and everything else. Blessings!

Best wishes from Majenta
