Vursell was the representative for Illinois’s 23rd congressional district and was a Republican. He served from 1953 to 1958.

He was previously the representative for Illinois’s 24th congressional district as a Republican from 1949 to 1952; and the representative for Illinois’s 23rd congressional district as a Republican from 1943 to 1948.
