Oftentimes, when married couples share the reasons why marriage is a challenge, you hear similar responses: Sharing EVERYTHING you own with a person, being an independent adult who now has to run things by another person, etc. But we want to know what marital challenges SURPRISED you after you came home from the tropical honeymoon with the bling on your finger and thawed out your frozen wedding cake slice a year later.
So I want to know: Married people, what are the everyday realities of marriage that were much harder than you thought they'd be?
You could reflect on your first fight with your spouse. How did you handle it? Maybe you realized later that you were actually in the wrong.
It could be about how you handle in-laws who are blind to boundaries, and your spouse is blind to their blindness.
It could also be about the challenges of combining your finances. Maybe you're the avid Amazon shopper who should consider cutting back, but your spouse has a bunch of debt that you're now taking on as a household.
Whatever your lessons are, I want to know about them. Comment below about the everyday realities of marriage that were waaay harder than you thought they would be. You can also fill out this form if you prefer to remain anonymous. Your response may be featured in a BuzzFeed Community post!
