This Barbie is president, and Vice President Kamala Harris might be, too!
On Sunday, President Joe Biden announced he was stepping down from the 2024 presidential race, revealing he would not seek reelection.
Well, it just so happens that precisely a year before Vice President Kamala Harris entered her name in the 2024 presidential race, Barbie premiered in theaters. The film highlighted the power of women, autonomy, and self-discovery.
Barbie showed women as doctors, lawyers, scientists, journalists, game developers, authors, and athletes. But the big moment came when audiences got to see a woman president (played by Issa Rae), as well as a female-led supreme court.
Not only did it give viewers a taste of what it would be like to have a woman as president, but a Black woman president at that.
Although we got to see it on-screen, VP Kamala Harris is looking to make it a reality in the White House. If elected, she'd be making history as the first woman president, the first Black woman president, and the first Asian American president.
Here's what people had to say about the anniversary announcement:
What a time to be alive!
