Sudoku puzzlers face off at SM City Baliwag

Mall goers will get an opportunity to witness a fierce battle of logic and problem-solving skills during the 7th Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge Regional Eliminations on October 14, 2012 at the Event Center of SM City Baliwag.

Spearheaded by the Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG) Philippines in partnership with the Philippine Star, SM Supermalls will be housing a simultaneous competition of the 9x9 number grid game in selected malls across the country.

The competition is aimed to cultivate the interest of the young and the young at heart in developing skills in logical thinking and creativity. As it appeals to players of all ages, the friendly competition not only provides an opportunity for a mental workout but also becomes a venue for Sudoku enthusiasts to interact with each other.

During the contest, three categories will be featured which includes the Sudoku Grandmaster level for college and professionals, Sudoku Wizard for high school level and Sudoku Whiz Kid for kids 12 years old and below.

Regional finalists will then face other qualifiers from Cagayan de Oro, Dasmariñas in Cavite, Sta. Rosa in Laguna, Baguio, Cebu, Pampanga, Iloilo, Lucena, Bacolod, Lipa in Batangas, Rosalis in Pangasinan, Tarlac, Naga, Marikina and Davao for the National Finals in SM City North Edsa on January 27, 2013.

In 2009, Baliwag’s pride, John Robert Valcos of St. Mary’s College of Baliwag was declared runner up during the grandmaster division of the 3rd Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge and later won the championship for the 3rd Brand's Sudoku Thailand International Open Princess Somsawali Cup held in Bangkok.
