Jan 7, 2009 · I flanged the seam. Being a novice, I noticed that the cut would have to be extremely straight to do a butt weld, so the flange was much easier. I also had to replace part of the inner fender. This I did butt weld. Since the piece was much smaller, it allowed me to manipulate the piece slightly to weld in place.

Jan 26, 2012 · Most of your welding with installing a full quarter will be plug welds. I've taught myself to weld by reading and watching videos and I put in full quarters on both sides, deep tubs, outer wheel houses, drop offs, rear deck lid, rear tail panel and new floors. It can be done. Just do a bunch of practicing first until you get the feel for it.

Dec 1, 2014 · A lap joint is going to be easier to fit up and weld. When you weld a lap the bulk of the heat is going into the lower piece, not on the edge of the upper piece. With a butt weld all the heat is going on edges and edges always burn away easier. You car is loaded with lap welds, done properly you cab greatly reduce corrosion problems.

Jan 17, 2012 · Also there is a door skin hammer that is made for door skins , use it. Lastly, test fit the skin on the car to make sure body lines and gaps are correct before you bond or weld the skin. I use panel bonding adhesive and spot weld in the corners. I have had to weld a metal rod on the leading edge of the door to decrease the gap size.

May 22, 2017 · The TCI Kit was basically straight forward itself, almost all the parts showed up with the kit. I am still missing the sway bar end weld connectors the weld onto my rear end. I should hopefully get these soon. I also installed a DSE mini tub kit which means I had to modify the ends of the upper shock mounts and bolting system on the TCI kit.
Can I weld in subframe connectors in with car on jack stands???

Yes my intent was to have the rear braces intersect the main hoop some 6 to 10 inches inboard from the top bend tangent (on each side) which would put them on the straight horizontal run. I need to move them inboard this much to have room to weld them to the main hoop.
