Re-powering the John Deere 318 Onan P218 Engine
Dec 15, 2023 · With a weak engine, the 318 chassis is worth $600 tops and that's for the Sundstrand tranny in it..... New Vanguard is $1,800. So a new Vanguard engine installed is worth 3x the whole tractor at the moment. A fresh P218 in a decent 318 chassis becomes worth $2K(to the right guy), for a $600 parts/labor investment.

He's had it for a while, but after having a few problems with it, he decided to get another 318 that was a little newer. One of the big problems he was having, was a loud clanking or banging noise during starting, like the flywheel was skipping on the starter.

The 318 seems to be the one in my price range and may be more versatile than the 330 which I recently found out does not have front hydraulics or power steering.
