Alpina has just unveiled the new B8 GT, its version of the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. The tuner will unveil a new lineup of cars and SUVs this decade.

After a cryptic teaser just a few days ago, Alpina has lifted the wraps off the fourth member of the GT lineup, the B8 GT. Based on the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, the B8 GT is the rarest and most powerful of the last generation of Alpinas built as an independent entity outside BMW's umbrella,

Alpina is marking 60 years of improving BMWs with the limited edition B8 GT. The €225,000 8-Series Gran Coupe makes 634 hp and is capped at 99 units. On an autobahn the GT can run to 205 mph, having hit 62 mph in 3.

Like previous Alpina GT models, the B8 GT boasts increased performance. Under the hood is the same twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 found in Alpina's standard B8, but its output has been raised to 625 hp, up from the stock 612 hp.

Likely the final car to be released with solo Alpina badging, no detail of the B8 GT has been overlooked. Based on the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, it blends form and function with a sleek low-key exterior, while the bonnet conceals a throaty 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 delivering 625bhp and 627 lb ft of torque.

As Alpina is absorbed into the wider BMW universe, so the final models look like being some of the finest in its history. The latest is the B8 GT, derived from the M8 Gran Coupe and with a special significance here as a tribute car to the late Burkhard Bovensiepen,
