Six days into their strike, the NYC arm of the Alamo United union will picket the theater chain's new parent company.

Employees of two Alamo Drafthouse theaters in New York voted to join Sloan’s Lake workers in their walkout Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter, meaning all three unionized theaters out of the company’s 42 U.S. locations are currently on strike.

Staffers at a unionized theater in Colorado have joined their New York colleagues in protesting cuts at the Sony-owned theater chain.

Alamo Drafthouse has laid off approximately 70 workers from its Manhattan and Brooklyn locations. These cuts were implemented ahead of an expected strike at two of the company’s New York City venues.

Workers are striking at the Alamo Drafthouse on Colfax Avenue in Denver. Employees are asking them to rehire 11 workers who were laid off.

The move marks an escalation in labor unrest over a round of layoffs that Alamo Drafthouse conducted nationwide in early 2025.

Update: The employees of the two unionized Alamo Drafthouses in New York City have joined the Sloans Lake location in Colorado in striking. Workers at the lower Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn theaters made good on the same threats Sloans Lake employees did to walk out and strike following layoffs due to seasonal slowdown.
