M*A*S*H Sticker Designs
For this assignment I was given the task of designing six stickers based on any topic I desired. I thought about this for some time before deciding that I wanted to make the stickers about one of my more niche interests, the half a century old television program “M*A*S*H”. The show is a wartime comedy also containing drama. I wanted to mix these two genres in my stickers to convey the message of comedy and tragedy as the show did. I also wanted my stickers to be relatively simple in design. To the average person my sticker designs would be nonsensical, as I wanted to make them only be subtle references inspired from ideas and iconography present in the show.
Although my drafts were rough, I had a clear image in my mind of how I envisioned my first sticker designs. I tried to portray my ideas from various angles and positions to see what I liked the most.
First Drafts
The most common mistake in my sticker drafts was the presence of strokes, the sure sign of an amateur. While that may be what I am, I do not want to appear that way. I worked on removing nearly of the strokes present, and my stickers were far better for it. I was told to improve upon my shading and shapes as well, so I did my best to improve upon those.
Final Results
This was an enjoyable exercise in creativity, I had fun trying to think of various ideas for my stickers. I feel as though my designs met the goals I had set for myself. They contain elements of comedy and tragedy. Although my stickers were not designed with a mass audience in mind, I am confident that others who are as familiar with the show M*A*S*H as I am would understand and appreciate the stickers I have made.
