This project was born at the request of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). The brief was to diffuse and protect the Bahuaja Sonene national park located in the rainforest of southern Peru.

The family I have designed was inspired by the water ways (rivers) as principal features of life in the Amazon: both a provider of nourishment and a transport system. This typeface currently consists of two fonts: a latin font called Ena, which means river in the ese eja language and another (Ena Kuei) inspired by the Ese Eja, the park's original inhabitants.

The 22 characters which comprise this experimental alphabet, allude through pictograms to basic elements of the forest environment: palm trees, ants or the human inhabitant. Furthermore, each pictogram represents the initial phoneme of the word when this is pronounced; in this way, 'nao' which means fish in ese eja, is associated with the phoneme [n].
