The Radio 4 Audience Panel
Radio 4 logoHundreds of people have already joined the Radio 4 Panel of listeners - if you'd like to take part, read on.
How to take part
We're looking to tap into our audience's experience and knowledge, not just their views and opinions.

We want you to help us cover the news better, by sharing your knowledge and expertise about various subjects.

We'll then take what you tell us, analyse it and distill it, and then pass it on to our reporters and editors who might follow it up with a request for more information, or even an interview, according to what you tell us.

We're starting from the premise that although Radio 4's journalists will always attempt to find the best sources and the best information to tell the stories you hear, there are a lot more of YOU than them.

And because so many of you have good information and insight acquired through your jobs, hobbies, contacts, friendships or life experiences, we can make better radio with your help.

As email enables us to communicate quickly with dozens or hundreds of participants, we hope to contact those of you with relevant knowledge on given stories as and when appropriate. It might be on the day of a story as it unfolds, in the run-up to a news story we know is coming, or more generally about an issue which is bubbling away under the surface.

But to find out who knows what, we need to build up detailed profiles of each Panel member, so we know who is best suited to help us with which subjects.

If you'd like to get involved, please send an email to radio4panel@bbc.co.uk to let us know of your interest. We'll email you back with more information on what's required.

After processing your information we will contact you by email every so often with requests, asking for you to share your knowledge and expertise with us.

Respond only to those emails which are relevant to you, ignore the rest.

We also welcome your story ideas - but please understand that we cannot cover every story that you suggest. In some cases, your idea may be a good one, but the newsroom may have other priorities.

And please be aware what the Radio Four Panel is not.  It is not designed to be a forum to comment on the network's output, or a place to complain if you're unhappy with Radio 4's coverage of a certain story. The Panel is about sharing your experience and knowledge. There are plenty of other ways to let us know your views and opinions - you can find a full list of Radio 4 shows here http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/atoz/ - or you can contact the Radio 4 programme "Feedback" here http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/feedback.shtml.
Your information and what we will do with it
We take your privacy extremely seriously and we want you and others to feel comfortable sharing important information with us.

Once you send in your details, we will store that information carefully, and use it only where necessary. We will never, under any circumstances, sell or share your personal information outside Radio 4.

The information you provide will only be used by the BBC to identify and contact contributors for future programmes on Radio 4 (however if you have other relationships with other areas of the BBC you may still be contacted by them).

By providing this information, you consent to us keeping this data on our BBC contributor database, where it will be kept securely and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

If you wish to be taken off the database at any time, or to update your details, please contact us on radio4panel@bbc.co.uk
