No photos yet, because even when I plan on taking them I get caught up in my cooking frenzy and forget about taking photos, but I'm having big fun with my new propane griddle  This One!  It's a knockoff of the Blackstone at a better prices and with a couple of improvements.  They only make one model and Blackstone makes dozens, but this one does what I need.

And now I understand why these things are catching on.  I was already sold on using it for Smashburgers (the best!) and omelets and hash browns and fried rice, etc. but thought that I would still need an open grill for steaks.  Not so!  Two boneless ribeyes with a perfect sear and almost rare inside have changed my mind.  Still need to see how pineapple and corn turn out without an open flame, but roasting jalapenos works great, and I can saute onions and bell peppers right on the flattop.  It's a great way to cook outdoors.

28", 3 burners. Glad I didn't go any smaller as it is good to have some elbow room when playing Benihana or Waffle House Guy. Also, if you want to toast buns on the griddle you need some space away from the grease. I'm using every inch.

I hope to never find out.

We are in only our second or third season with an open gas grill (which seemed so much more handy than the charcoal grills we used to have) and I'm already fed up with all the rancid fat that sticks in every corner of the grill no matter how much I wipe and jet-blast that thing. It's good to know there are alternatives that keep all the grease in one place.

Bill, is that one the smooth flat top or is it textured?

Bill, I checked out your new unit . My son has the Blackstone big one and works great, but too big for me. I am torn about getting one, as I really don’t need one ,but wouldn’t mind having one. After looking at your unit and reading most of the reviews, I’m thinking you just cost me $200.00 you rat dastard!!! LOL
I was impressed with the way people talked about the quality of the grill and it’s also $110.00 less than the Blackstone. Very cool. Hope you enjoy the hell out of it!!!
Now it’s just a matter of convincing the “Boss” that this purchase will be made with her in mind. Besides, nothing better than griddled smash burgers!!!
Slammer!!!

Christ on ice skates Bill, now all I can think about is Venison fajitas, grilled walleye, teriyaki grilled salmon, smash burgers, chocolate chip pancakes, hash browns, grilled onions, more grilled onions, shrimp and stir frys, bacon, bacon, sausages, more bacon, sausages. Did I mention bacon and sausages? Fresh fish, grilled sammiches!!!
I gotta go eat now, thanks!!!

These things are awesome, but is it really grilling?

I suppose it's a personal distinction that only matters if you think it matters, but to me this is basically just a frying pan that you use outside. It's basically the type of thing you'd see in the kitchen of a tavern/bar/grill type establishment.

It's not really cooking directly over the heat like a real grill, do you get the same flavor profile?

depends,,, if you were using a gas grill before ,, you get the marks and more of a burnt finish,,you can get a burnt finish with the flat top just use higher heat,,, unless you were using a smoker tray with you gas grill the taste is pretty much the same as a regular gas grill.   nothing replaces the taste of charcoal and a choice wood for grilling but the flat tops are easy and  versatile,,,

I would "kinda" like one...But, I would miss the smoke. Even in my gasser, even with fast cooking burgers, I get the smoking rolling heavy, then put the patties on the grill and close it for a few minutes. Same with veggies and fish.
That said, you still get a bit of the foods on juices or butters or oils sizzling on the flat top to give extra flavor. Shoot, I do a lot on top of yogi mats anyway.
I want a flat top!

---" is that one the smooth flat top or is it textured?-"

Bill, it comes with a fairly heavy texture that had me concerned but it gets smoother with use and acquires it's form of non-stick surface. I went through the seasoning process and that helped right from the start but it gets better and better just from cooking on it. My first burgers had to be scraped up to flip, the last ones came up easy.
The easy cleanup is a big factor, just scrape all the grease into the grease trap, hit with water and rub down---wearing heat gloves!--then a light rub with oil to keep rust away.

Brad, this is not for smoke lovers, which is a plus for me but not all. I have grown tired of a strong smoke taste. In place of smoke I can cook steaks in seasoned butter and veggies in stir-fry sauce, etc. It's a different flavor profile.

YellowSky, yes, like a huge frying pan outdoors, which is the best place for all that heat and grease and smoke and odors.

Other than size I don't see how it would be much different. I also looked at getting a cast iron flat top that I could use on my stove or my grill because I don't really have a lot of room for another grill on my deck. Then there's the using it in the dead of winter thing.

You can buy the big griddle plates to go over your grill if you desire convertibility. I don't have any place to store one and I would think that it would be a greasy sooty thing to have to store. And managing the grease is an issue, I don't know how the grid plates handle that but mine drains into a trap that removes for easy cleaning.
A compound like Al's has plenty of room, but that is not my situation.

Brian T - Posted - 07/07/2021:  21:30:17

I have a cast iron griddle which spans 2 elements on my electric stove.
Mine doesn't get sooty (not even outdoors on a gas grill).
Let it cool, dump off the fat into a jar for disposal. Wipe with a paper towel.
What I don't like is that the griddle is a very large and very hot surface area.
Inefficient.

I'd rathe have 2 or 3 pans with handles going, instead.
