The view from the window was great and fantastic in the morning. The living room was cozy and the projector setup was convenient with clear instructions. The bar was lovely with dinnerware. ParkRoyal Blackpool, hotel in Blackpool

Located in Blackpool and with Blackpool South Beach reachable within 400 metres, ParkRoyal Blackpool provides a shared lounge, allergy-free rooms, free WiFi throughout the property and a bar.

Generally on my trip to Blackpool I will only use well affiliated branded hotels because of disastrous previous B&B choices. On this occasion it was a spur of the moment trip with no availability in my regular hotels, in be known to myself it was fireworks display evening and everything was fully booked. Unwittingly I stumbled across the Park Royal which with its remarkable reviews and photo uploads I was convinced this would be suitable accommodation for my weekend trip. Foolishly I booked for 2 evenings. So impressed with the rates I opted for the slightly more expensive Superior room. Shortly after booking through a well known website, I started to receive text messages from the proprietor with a barrage of do's and don't and it's T &Cs that the booking site had not stipulated. Then a text asking if I was still coming. Very dubious but I had already paid so I was at a point of no return. When we arrived there was no where to park and looking at the down trodden street it was safer to park my vehicle in a secure parking complex which was quite a distance from the guest house. Any similarities to the pictures on the website had vanished off the front of this run down property. The sign is faded and covered in bird muck, no sign of any beautiful flowers in hanging baskets. On entering you have to fight your way through the overgrown plants all around the door and hallway, it's like the Amazon rainforest. Then there is a whole heap of junk placed around the hallway. First impressions where I have just stepped into Steptoes yard. I'm afraid it just went downhill from there onwards. The room was tiny, the mirrored furniture was smashed. The wallpaper was falling off the ceiling. A garden table and chairs plonked in the only bit of space left on the floor with more plants. The towels were grotty and like sandpaper. Still we were determined it wasn't going to spoil our break. I told myself to shut up and put up and to go and enjoy...

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

The pride of Blackpool. This theme park has so many rides that the problem is knowing where to start. They range from the high-octane Big One rollercoaster right down to the cutesy Rugrats ride in Nickelodeon Land. Best of all, the Pleasure Beach comes with a thoroughly English disclaimer – if it rains for three hours straight, you can come back for free the next day.

Beach is nice and sandy but the view behind you is very sad .... many closed restaurants and hotels; buildings in need of paint; what happened to this once-thriving seaside town? Looks very run down indeed ....

Get there as early as possible before 10oclock and you will be closer to the front and head for the biggest rides first but most rides don't open until 10.30 but loads of fun and if u go on the ride Valhalla wear a rain Mac or poncho because u will get soaked but worth it

Pay to enter then rides are free.

Pay to enter then rides are free. Recommend getting a print of your ticket in one of the shops in pleasure beach as you have to scan on to each ride. This will save battery on your phone and also means groups can split up to go on different rides. Also keeps your phone safely packed away reducing risk of damage on rides. Disappointed that some of the rides were closed but it was a windy day so understand safety comes first. Be aware of this when booking to go in that weather affects what rides can run .

Went during the Scottish school holidays first week when not all Scottish schools were off - no queues so perfect for doing rides multiple times. Do Valhalla last or…. Bring spare clothes and use the lockers to change.

This visit we rate good and bad.

This visit we rate good and bad. We have visited many times but this time we noticed good and bad situations with a few rides, Good: The very old Steeplechase and The 100 year old Big Supper were MUCH BETTER than before with new soft cushions inserted into the buckets. Bad: The restraints on the Revolution were loose and made the experience painful! We noticed the jerking of The Big One over certain steeps made one nervous that it could one day breakaway! (Heaven forbid!) And the Infusion was extremely head rattling, many complained. Otherwise our day was brilliant. We'll be BACK!
