A survey by Costa Rican telecom regulator Sutel has shown that 40.3% of all Costa Ricans now have a smartphone.

Of the total number with a smartphone, 80.2% are reported to have internet connection speeds of over 1Mbps.

Also measured in the survey was customer satisfaction with the quality of service from providers Fullmóvil (81.6%), Claro (79.4%), Tuyo Móvil (76.9%), Movistar (77.5%), and Kölbi (70.8%).

Kölbi, the mobile brand of state telco and power firm ICE, received the highest customer loyalty rating, with customers remaining on the network for an average of 40.7 months; while Movistar was ranked the lowest with customers staying with the company for an average of 12.5 months. Kölbi launched commercial 4G LTE services in late 2013.

The survey was conducted in the last quarter of 2013 using a sample of 5,038 active users aged over 15, and included a minimum of 1,000 clients from each service provider.
