Marcello Carelli
Marcello has performed at the Umbria and Pescara Jazz Festivals in Italy as well as the Crescent City Jazz Festival in New Orleans. He has also performed in Amsterdam, Surinam, California, and Colorado. Marcello has been exposed to music since he was very young, thanks to his parents who are both performing artists. Marcello won first place at the Keep an Eye Jazz International Competition with the Nicole McCabe Quintet back in March of 2022. He is a product of many fine teachers, including two-time Grammy Award-winning drummer Peter Erskine and 2011 MacArthur Fellow Dafnis Prieto. Marcello’s drumming influences include Art Blakey, Philly Joe Jones, Louis Hayes, Kenny Washington, and Greg Hutchinson. He is also a talented composer and has received two Downbeat Student Music Awards for his composition entitled, "Resilience" and his arrangement on Cole Porter's "It's All Right with Me." Both of those tunes can be heard on Marcello's most recent album entitled "The Era" which was released back in February of 2022.
