Individuals with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) usually presents many challenges at the moment of offering some type of effective treatment. For example, these clients usually presents comorbidities, prolonged abusive and traumatic histories, and a severe symptomatology that typically reveals a fragile ego-state, emotional dysregulation, and a tendency to report constant and repetitive interpersonal conflicts, especially in intimate relationships. The case of Camilo presented a wide plethora of clinical complications that were recalcitrant to previous treatment by four different clinical psychologists. One of the peculiarities of this case is that Camilo evidenced an ego-dystonic homosexuality that was previously treated by a psychologists using a “reparative therapy” that only deepened his anguish and confusion. In the case of Camilo, the development of a strong therapeutic alliance permitted to uncover some traumatic experiences that configured his c...

Jakobitsch T. and Angelopoulou A. (2024), «Food offerings and firewood: Integrated archaeobotanical analysis of seed/fruit and wood charcoal remains from a Hellenistic-Roman Cemetery on Tinos island, Cyclades». Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports 57, 1-10.2024 •
Archaeobotanical studies have already been widely and successfully used in Greece for the Neolithic to Iron Age periods, yet they were mostly omitted in Classical archaeology. This was justified by the existence of ancient texts, that provide information on plant use in Antiquity. However, not every aspect of life and plant use is described in ancient texts, and additionally, research of past vegetation relies solely on the studies of plant remains. A rescue excavation of a Hellenistic-Roman cemetery with pyres and graves on Tinos Island in the Cyclades provided not only charred seeds/fruits and leaves, but also large amounts of charcoal. The material enabled the study of food offerings / grave goods of plant origin, as well as the choice and availability of fuel wood for cremations. The olive (Olea europaea) seems to have been an important food crop on the island, as it was found in high quantities, accompanied by barley (Hordeum vulgare) and other cereals (Cerealia), as well as cereal products (ACO = amorphous charred objects), figs (Ficus carica) and grapes (Vitis vinifera). Fuel wood for the cremations was mainly based on evergreen oak (Quercus sect. Ilex) and olive wood (Olea europaea), the latter probably deriving from prunings produced in olive groves. Other macroremains, such as a leaf of kermes oak (Quercus coccifera), myrtle charcoal (Myrtus communis) and heather leaves (Erica manipuliflora) point to fuel harvest in Phrygana shrubland, which is the main vegetation form found on the island today.
Thomism Revisited
A Metametaphysics of Form2024 •
A model of metaphysics associated with EJ Lowe and Tuomas Tahko sees metaphysics as involving a priori knowledge of possible essences, or at least modal facts, and delimiting the actual ‘ontological categories,’ the ultimate and essential divisions of what exists, based on the results of a posteriori scientific investigation. Their approach to metaphysics has been criticized by those who argue that such metaphysics is unsuitably a priori, disconnected with empirical research in natural science, and ends up failing to provide meaningful constraints on metaphysical theorization. I present different epistemological and semantic worries about these accounts to motivate an alternative perspective on which metaphysics centers on form, rather than possibility. This scholastic perspective is shown to incorporate the skeptical insights as constitutive of its approach to existence, by way of the position that ‘being’ is not a genus. Rather, ‘being’ is a determinable. The scholastic approach can thus provide responses to the skeptics, since it denies that ontological categories – in the Lowe/Tahko sense – are what metaphysicians investigate and proposes a different view of ontological categories as classes of forms.
