Ocupa aproximadamente 2 m², y su espesor varía entre los 0,5 mm (en los párpados) a 4 mm (en el talón). Su peso aproximado es de 5 kg. Actúa como barrera protectora que aísla al organismo del medio que lo rodea, protegiéndolo y contribuyendo a mantener íntegras sus estructuras, al tiempo que actúa como sistema de comunicación con el entorno, y éste varía en cada especie. Anatómicamente se toma como referencia las medidas estándar dentro de la piel humana. También es conocido como sistema tegumenta Estructura general La estructura general histológica está compuesta por: Corpúsculo de Meissner (Georg Meissner): presentes en el tacto de piel sin vellos, palmas, plantas, yema de los dedos, labios, punta de la lengua, pezones, glande y clítoris (tacto fino). Corpúsculos de Krause: que proporcionan la sensación de frío. Corpúsculos de Pacini: que dan la sensación de presión. Corpúsculos de Ruffini: que registran el calor. Corpúsculos de Merkel: que registran al tacto superficial. Existen dos tipos de piel: Piel fina o blanda: la piel fina o blanda es aquella que se encuentra principalmente en los párpados y las zonas genitales. Por otra parte, care estrato lúcido Piel gruesa: la piel gruesa se localiza en la piel labial, plantar y palmar, además esta se caracteriza por tener un estrato corneo muy desarrolla comparación del resto de la piel. Está formada por estrato córneo, estrato lúcido, estrato granuloso, estrato espinoso y estrato basal. La piel dentro del estudio embriológico: Epidermis: tiene un origen ectodérmico. Dermis: tiene un origen mesodérmico. La biología estudia a la piel y la divide en 3 porciones: Epidermis. Dermis. Hipodermis. La piel, del latín pellis, es señalado como el órgano más grande en los animales y en los seres humanos. Se trata de un tegumento que, en el caso de los organismos con vértebras, se compone de una capa exterior (denominada epidermis) y de otra interior (que recibe el nombre de dermis). También es conocido como sistema tegumentario. ✓ IMPORTANCIA La piel es uno de los órganos de nuestro cuerpo con mayor importancia. Muchos pensareis que esta afirmación es una completa exageración ¿qué puede haber más importante que el corazón o los pulmones? Pues bien. La piel es importante debido a que protege a todo estos órganos internos de los ataques externos. No obstante, esta sólo es una de las funciones de este órgano, lo cierto es que cuenta con muchísimas más. Sin ella nuestro cuerpo no estaría hidratado, no conseguiríamos estar nutridos, no podríamos curar nuestras heridas o eliminar el exceso de calor de nuestro cuerpo. Sin duda alguna la piel es importante y por tanto hay que cuidarla. Es el órgano más visible y gracias a él todo el interior de nuestro cuerpo está protegido. Así, cuando nos golpeamos, nos quemamos, o incluso cuando estamos sometidos a agentes químicos, la piel hace de escudo protector para que nuestros órganos internos sufran el menor daño posible. Sin duda una buena armadura. Teniendo en cuenta que el hombre cuenta con un alto contenido en agua, la hidratación es esencial para que nos mantengamos con vida. La piel también está formada de agua, concretamente de un 70%. Gracias a esta hidratación es posible que nuestras heridas cicatricen antes o incluso que tengamos la piel mucho más joven. Una piel seca será mucho menos estética además de sufrir más problemas dermatológicos. La piel hace también una función realmente importante al eliminar todas las toxinas de nuestro cuerpo. Sin ella y sin funciones de regulación como el sudor, seguramente tendríamos muchos más problemas de salud, pues no lograríamos expulsar todas las toxinas que nuestro cuerpo genera. En este punto es necesario añadir que gracias a la piel podemos controlar la regulación de la temperatura corporal. Esto es realmente importante, pues el hombre no puede alcanzar altas temperaturas, al igual que bajas. Así, si nuestro cuerpo cuenta con mucho calor, gracias al sudor podremos eliminar parte de esta temperatura. Por último, no podemos hablar de la importancia de la piel sin recordar que gracias a ella podemos sentir; y es que la piel cuenta con un sinfín de terminaciones nerviosas que sirven como vía para
