The degradation of soil and water resources has underpinned the chronic household level food insecurity in Ethiopia. The Purpose of the study was to assess the perceived effectiveness of soil and water conservation practices in the study area, and recommend sustainable planning, and management measures. The data for this study were collected via household interview schedule, focus group discussion, key informant interview, and personal observation. Data collected through household survey questionnaire were analysed with the help of simple ddescriptive statistics (mean, standard deviations, percentages, frequencies, and cross tabulation). Chi-squire test was used to see the difference between nominal/categorical dependent variable and the nominal independent variable. Qualitative data were analysed through thematic analysis, and narration. Over cultivation, deforestation, overgrazing, runoff from upslope and the easily erodible nature of the soil, poor agricultural practices, absence of appropriate soil conservation practices, over Population, intensity of rainfall, and cultivation of steep slopes and marginal lands without adequate erosion-controlling measures were identified as causes of soil erosion in the study area. The major structural soil and water conservation measures identified in the study area include: waterway, contour ploughing, cultural ditches, mulching, fallowing, soil bund, agroforestry, tree planting, area closure, cut off-drains, and wood check dams. The major challenges for implementing structural soil and water conservation measures identified in the study area include: physical soil conservation structures were not supported by biological works, lack of regular maintenance of soil and water conservation structures, and absence of care for trees planted on physical structures. A combination of structural and non-structural soil and water conservation measures should be practiced in the study area to achieve the sustainable development goals in agricultural development sector.
Islamization is one the most heatly debated topics among Muslim scholars in many Muslim countries. The debate in this issue is split into two poles. In one hand, a group of dedicated Muslim scholars argue that Islamization of science is a historical necessity since Islam is a holistic religion governing every aspect of its adherents. In another hand, a group of prominent Muslim scholars argues that such effort are not possible let alone necessary. This paper, therefore, aims at exploring the views of Fazlur Rahman, one of the most progressive Muslim thinkers in the world regarding the issue at hand. According to Fazlur Rahman, actors involved in the debate of the issue of Islamization of science, most of the times, forget the very basic question of what they are going to do when, let say, science has been Islamized, or will science become different afterwards as we know it today. These questions, among many others, according to Fazlur Rahman, not only could alter the way science and Islam is being mixed together but also could alter the views of Muslims about their basic tenet of religion. Dr. Hatem Bazian and the research team at the Islamophobia Research and Documentation Project at UC Berkeley produced this working bibliography for the benefit of researchers and academics engaged in this emerging field. The hope that this can serve as the first stop for anyone interested in conducting research in the Islamophobia Studies field and build upon it moving forward. The materials included will be updated annually by the team at UC Berkeley.

A method for risk-based design is described in this paper. Probabilistic methods of analysis are applied to stress modelling to determine the probability of exceeding a given depth of failure. Suggestions are provided for dealing with geotechnical uncertainty. The understanding of aleatory variability can be improved by collecting more data and improving the quality of data through training and quality control. Stress and model uncertainty remains a challenge in geotechnical engineering. Some degree of subjective engineering judgment will therefore always be required in geotechnical design. Acceptance criteria then need to be defined in terms of safety and economic risk. Corporate risk matrices can be used for assessing the risk in terms of the probability and consequence. International safety benchmarking and safety milestones should be considered. The cost of rehabilitation of tunnels and the financial losses due to lost production are assessed using the model. A typical risk matr...

Escribe Proust:
