Core stability is an ability to control movement and position of trunk on pelvic that permits distal segments to control and transfer force and motions during sport activities. Muscle contraction can improve this stability. Improving core stability can also cause improvement in athletic functions, prevention of injury, increasing power, improve stability and balance. This study determines the relationship between core stability and athletic functions in football, basketball and swimming athletes. This study had easy sample and participants were men between 20-30 years old; consist of 3 groups, 20 persons in each one, professional athletes of football, basketball and swimming. Participants which had inclusion criteria examined in two continues days.in the first day core stability tests such as anterior, posterior and lateral (right, left) abdominal muscles endurance test, and in the second day functional tests including vertical jump, 40 yard running, medicine ball throw and star exc...
force generation in all sports activities is being increasingly recognised. 'Core stability' is seen as being pivotal for efficient biomechanical function to maximise force generation and minimise joint loads in all types of activities ranging from running to throwing. However, there is less clarity about what exactly constitutes 'the core', either anatomically or physiologically, and physical evaluation of core function is also variable. 'Core stability' is defined as the ability to control the position and motion of the trunk over the pelvis to allow optimum production, transfer and control of force and motion to the terminal segment in integrated athletic activities. Core muscle activity is best understood as the pre-programmed integration of local, single-joint muscles and multi-joint muscles to provide stability and produce motion. This results in proximal stability for distal mobility, a proximal to distal patterning of generation of force, and the creation of interactive moments that move and protect distal joints. Evaluation of the core should be dynamic, and include evaluation of the specific functions (trunk control over the planted leg) and directions of motions (three-planar activity). Rehabilitation should include the restoring of the core itself, but also include the core as the base for extremity function.

A pilot study of core stability and athletic performance: is there a relationship?2011 •
Correlation study To objectively evaluate the relationship between core stability and athletic performance measures in male and female collegiate athletes. The relationship between core stability and athletic performance has yet to be quantified in the available literature. The current literature does not demonstrate whether or not core strength relates to functional performance. Questions remain regarding the most important components of core stability, the role of sport specificity, and the measurement of core stability in relation to athletic performance. A sample of 35 volunteer student athletes from Asbury College (NAIA Division II) provided informed consent. Participants performed a series of five tests: double leg lowering (core stability test), the forty yard dash, the T-test, vertical jump, and a medicine ball throw. Participants performed three trials of each test in a randomized order. Correlations between the core stability test and each of the other four performance tes...

The Effectiveness of Core Stability Exercises on Increasing Core Muscle Strength for Junior Swimming AthletesSwimming is a way to maintain a streamlined body position, which requires core muscle strength; the core muscles must be strong to carry out their function in maintaining body position during swimming. Core muscle strength correlates with swimmers' buoyancy and performance. Thus, training such as core stability exercises is needed to increase the strength of the core muscles. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effectiveness of core stability exercises using a Swiss ball to increase core muscle strength in junior swimmers. An experimental method was employed with one group only pretest and posttest design. The research instrument utilized to measure the core muscle strength of junior swimmers was the sit-up test. 50 members of the Taksaka Swimming Club were determined as the population of the study while only 30 of them were involved as the sample of this study. Out of the 30 people, 15 of them were given treatment and the rest 15 people were grouped in the control group. They were divided using a purposive sampling technique. The results showed that core stability exercise using a Swiss ball was effective in increasing core muscle strength in junior swimmers as indicated by a t-score of 7.5 at the significance level of α = 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that core stability exercises using a Swiss ball can be used to increase the strength of the core muscles to enable the stability around the lumbar spine and abdominal muscles might bring about biomechanical changes that allow swimmers to swim faster in a more efficient way.

Critical review of the impact of core stability on upper extremity athletic injury and performance2015 •
Programs designed to prevent or rehabilitate athletic injuries or improve athletic performance frequently focus on core stability. This approach is based upon the theory that poor core stability increases the risk of poor performance and/or injury. Despite the widespread use of core stability training amongst athletes, the question of whether or not sufficient evidence exists to support this practice remains to be answered. 1) Open a dialogue on the definition and components of core stability. 2) Provide an overview of current science linking core stability to musculoskeletal injuries of the upper extremity. 3) Provide an overview of evidence for the association between core stability and athletic performance. Core stability is the ability to control the position and movement of the trunk for optimal production, transfer, and control of forces to and from the upper and lower extremities during functional activities. Muscle capacity and neuromuscular control are critical components o...

Swiss Ball-Based Core Stability Exercise for Students-Athletes of Pencak Silat in Pontianak: Experimental StudyThe core muscles are essential for stabilization and strength building in all sports activities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Swiss ball-based core stability training model for student-athletes of Pencak silat. Methods: This study used an experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The subject of this research was the student-athlete of Pencak silat in Pontianak. Specifically, the sample was student-athletes aged 15-17 years. The respondents of this study were 60 student-athletes who were divided into two groups, the experimental and control groups, with 30 respondents in each. Analysis: Quantitative data analysis techniques were used to determine the effectiveness of the exercise model with plank instruments and modified bass tests of dynamic balance, before and after treatment. Data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics version 16. Results: The results obtained from the core muscle strength test using the plank instrument before was 1.8630 and after being given treatment was 2.763, concluded that the experimental group's core muscle strength was higher or more effective than the control group. While the value of dynamic balance with the modified bass test instrument obtained before was 26 and after being treated was 35.83. Conclusion: The balance test of the experimental group was higher or more effective than the control group. Based on preliminary and posttest evidence, Swiss ball-based core stability exercises effectively improve core muscle strength and dynamic balance. The effectiveness of the Swiss ball-based core stability exercise must be accompanied by a pattern of exercise that is in accordance with the muscle group and anatomical adaptation of the exercise according to the athlete's ability.
EAA 2024 session - Rome 28 - 31 August Advances in archaeological science (e.g., aDNA and isotopes analyses) are challenging traditional archaeological narratives and posing new questions especially regarding major transformations in European and Mediterranean societies during prehistoric times. Ceramic is an important component of the material record and gives us insights into cultural, chronological, technological, symbolic and socioeconomic information beyond simple chrono-cultural determinations. The combination of stylistic, archaeometric, technological, trace and functional analyses, as well as experimental archaeology, has become established in archaeological research in recent years. At the same time, anthropological, sociological and ethnoarchaeological studies have informed the interpretation of potter's skill and knowledge. This interdisciplinary approach demonstrated to be crucial to detect and explore technical, cultural, symbolic, and socioeconomic change. With this in mind, the session aims to bring together a broad range of expertise from archaeological theory, experimental work and the natural sciences, to present research about understandings of periods of change through the lens of ancient ceramic in the Mediterranean basin, from Neolithic to Iron Age. In particular, we aim to focus on specific questions: What happens to the ceramic production in times of cultural, socioeconomic or population transformations? Can periods of change be detected through advanced ceramic analyses? How can these different approaches to ceramics be combined to tackle transitions? What are the mechanisms of resistance and change in contexts of intense socio-cultural innovation? What is the role played by potters' knowledge and skill in these processes? We welcome studies about the ceramic analyses in times of cultural and socioeconomic change with an emphasis on the variety of theoretical and methodological approaches adopted in relation to different contexts and time periods.
