Background: Malnutrition and infectious diseases both occur in the same unfortunate children and together they play a major role in causing the high morbidity and mortality in them. Acute Diarrhoeal diseases (ADD’s) are reported to be the 2nd leading cause of child morbidity and mortality. Objectives: To study the attack rate of Acute Diarrhoeal Disease among pre-school children and to study the socio-demographic variables of pre-school children suffering from Acute Diarrhoeal Disease. Methods: A Longitudinal study was conducted among preschool children (3-5years) of Private pre-primary school of urban area and followed for the period of one year. Mother/ guardian/ teacher was interviewed by using pre-tested proforma. Results: About 56% of children found suffering from ADD with 0.6 episodes per children per year among private pre-primary school. Higher proportions of ADD affected children were residing in nuclear type of family, belonging to middle socio-economic class, mothers were literate & housewives, born with order >2 compared to non ADD affected children. Conclusion: More than half of children from private pre-primary schools suffered with nearly one attack of Acute Diarrhoeal Disease. Maternal illiteracy and working mothers found favorable factors. Immunization coverage, EBF and proper weaning play a very important role in prevention of infections.

Nearly half percentages of children of below 5years of the age are hospitalized for diarrhea. Parental carelessness and especially lack of hygienic practices followed during the feeding are the factors which increases the prevalence of diarrhea. This was a prospective descriptive survey done in rural areas of south Karnataka, on 60 mothers of under five children. The main objective of the study was to assess the Prevalence of diarrhea, among under five children and to assess the Feeding practices of mothers of under five children. A semi structured questionnaire was used to find out the prevalence of diarrhea and knowledge on feeding practices of mothers of under five children. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used to analyze the data. Findings revealed that the prevalence of diarrhea per child in a year was 2 episodes. Majority (57.66%) of mothers of under five children had inadequate knowledge on feeding practices and 48.3 % have moderate knowledge on feeding practices. There was significant correlation between prevalence of diarrhea and feeding practices of mothers of under five children. Conclusion: The study emphasizes on raising the knowledge level of mothers to adopt hygienic feeding practices as preventive measures to prevent diarrhea.

Knowledge regarding diarrhoea and its management among mothers of under-five children in an urban area of Amritsar, PunjabBackground: Diarrhoeal diseases are a leading cause of childhood morbidity and mortality in developing countries, and an important cause of malnutrition. In 2003 an estimated 1.87 million children below 5 years died from diarrhoea. In India nearly 1.5 million under-fives are dying every year only due to acute gastroenteritis. Therefore the present study was conducted to find the knowledge about diarrhoea and its management among the mothers of under-five children.Methods: A total of 400 mothers of under-five children were interviewed. The mothers were selected by adopting simple random sampling method. A pre-designed and pre tested questionnaire was used to collect the information. The prevalence rate and preventive measures of diarrhea in children under five years of age in Suryabinayak municipality, BhaktapurIntroduction: Diarrheal disease forms one of the two major killer diseases in children under five years of age in the developing world. According to World Health Organization (2017), diarrhea related deaths in Nepal accounts for 4.83% of total deaths.
