The comparison that Justin Martyr makes between the Christianity to which he converted and the traditional cults of his time has two sides that make Justin’s religiosity essentially ambiguous. On the one hand, Justin critically attributes the concepts and practices of ancient religiosity to the influence of demons. On the other hand, he wants to justify the universality of the Logos in human history. For this reason, he recognizes, in an appreciative way, certain traces of truth and morality in Greek wisdom, which finds its fullness and fulfillment in Christ, Logos made flesh. In the light of this ambiguous religiosity, one can understand why Justin coins the phrase “Christians before Jesus” as a category for Socrates and others. The driving force behind this operation is certainly confessional and proselytising, but for contemporary dialogue it can stimulate a sincere and passionate exchange with the religious position of one’s interlocutors.

An early metal assemblage from Dail na Caraidh, Inverness-shire, and its contextBetween 1980 and 1984 a number of finds of EBA metalwork were recovered via metal-detecting from an area of rough ground at the head of a small disused quarry. This report considers the character of the metalwork and the context in which that material was deposited. It concludes that the entire assemblage could have resulted from more than one period of votive deposition, and that these activities focused upon a prominent, but natural, long mound and occurred in an area which may have been demarcated by other natural points of reference.
Most scholars and critics have generally seen film noir as an American genre, emphasizing the fact that noir films have hailed from the classic Hollywood industry, or in the case of neo-noir, from the post-classical Hollywood cinema. Essentially, the perspectives of these scholars focus on the American contexts surrounding the films. This chapter examines films noir produced by two major film industries in Asia, the Hong Kong and South Korean cinemas which have been the most prolific in fashioning and transforming the noir tendency for their respective Asian contexts. The chapter sets out to understand the contexts of these motion pictures including detective and gangster genre films produced over the last ten years or so. The chapter thus follows the imperative on contextuality established in American scholarship of noir. Film noir in the Asian contexts (a darker than dark sensibility and an overwhelming urge towards violence) may be seen as alternative reactions to the American contexts of noir criticism.

Development and validation of the Narcissistic Vulnerability Scale: An adjective rating scale2018 •
There is an ongoing debate regarding the nature of narcissism such that some argue that narcissistic individuals oscillate between grandiose and vulnerable states, whereas others argue these dimensions are stable traits (e.g., grandiose individuals remain in grandiose states). Scales sensitive to fluctuations in narcissistic states are necessary to address this question. The current study (N = 1,613 across three samples) validates the newly developed Narcissistic Vulnerability Scale (NVS), a brief (11-item) adjective-based measure of vulnerable narcissism. Expert ratings were used for item selection. The NVS's factor structure was evaluated along with its correlations with measures of grandiose and vulnerable narcissism, five-factor model traits, and self-esteem. A subset of NVS items were also evaluated using an ecological momentary assessment design. Results indicate the NVS is a unidimensional measure of vulnerable narcissism that could be used in either trait-oriented or sta...

"Political and Social Change in Turkey: An Analysis of the Özal, Türkeş, Ecevit, Gülen and2024 •
This comprehensive study explores the political and social evolution of Turkey over the past half-century, focusing on the significant roles played by leaders such as Özal, Türkeş, Ecevit, Gülen, and Erdoğan. Each period is examined in depth, analyzing the economic, political, and social reforms implemented and their impact on Turkish society. The Özal era marked a pivotal period of economic liberalization and political reform in the 1980s, characterized by Özal's leadership and his implementation of free-market policies. The era's impact on political and social change was profound, yet accompanied by challenges such as income inequality and political polarization. Alparslan Türkeş and the rise of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) represent a surge in Turkish nationalism and the consolidation of nationalist ideologies in Turkish politics. Türkeş's leadership shaped the trajectory of Turkish nationalism, contributing to societal polarization. Bülent Ecevit's resurgence of the left heralded a period of social democracy in Turkey. Ecevit's governments prioritized workers' rights and social justice, contributing to Turkey's democratization process. However, the Ecevit era was marred by political instability and economic hardships, underscoring the limitations of leftist influence. The emergence of the Gülen Movement signaled a shift in Turkey's religious and educational landscape. Through its focus on education and social services, the movement became a significant societal force. However, recent tensions associated with the movement have introduced uncertainty into Turkey's internal politics. The Recep Tayyip Erdoğan era represents a transformative period in Turkish politics and society. Under Erdoğan's leadership, the AK Party spearheaded economic growth and political reforms, contributing to Turkey's democratization. Nevertheless, recent political tensions and restrictions on fundamental rights have prompted critical evaluation of the Erdoğan era. The study identifies key factors shaping Turkey's political and social evolution, including leadership, ideological trends, democratic processes, cultural and religious diversity, economic conditions, and social movements. Looking ahead, anticipated changes in Turkey's political and social landscape include continued democratization, increased social cohesion and diversity, economic development, and shifts in political dynamics. However, uncertainties surrounding the trajectory of these changes underscore the complexity of Turkey's future. Understanding Turkey's political and social evolution requires a multifaceted perspective that considers both internal dynamics and external influences.

Livro Patrimonio y Crisis2023 •
'When showing Hanfu to foreigners, I feel very proud': The imagined community and affective economies of Hanfu (Chinese traditional couture) among Chinese migrant youth in the United Kingdom2022 •
This article sheds light on the intricate relationship between the revival of Hanfu, traditional couture from the Han Dynasty, and rising Chinese nationalism among Chinese youth living in the United Kingdom. Mobilizing the theoretical tool 'affective economies', we explore how particular feelings and values are assigned and attached to Hanfu, and thereby circulate among young Chinese migrants. We begin by examining the Hanfu movement to interrogate how Hanfu is reinvented based on a selective historicity of the past, serving as a specific cultural product for China's rejuvenation. We then move on to analyze a series of in-depth interviews conducted between December 2019 and July 2020. We probe the lived experiences of young Hanfu supporters, who are members of the UK Han Culture Association, and the cultural events organized by the Association, in order to scrutinize the ways Hanfu conjures up an imagined community suffused with nationalism. Drawing upon on the affective economies of Hanfu, we discern the following three key findings: First, we argue that there are both positive and negative affective attachments to Hanfu, such as homesickness, loneliness, alienation, happiness, pride and beauty, which impinge on migrant bodies, assigning values to Hanfu and the Hanfu-related cultural events. Second, we show through the analysis of the fieldwork materials the paradoxical desire for chuguo (going abroad) and huiguo (returning to the nation) in the hearts of the young migrants. Finally, we argue that Hanfu circulates as a 'mnemonic thing' that signifies a specific imaginary of Ancient China, where young migrant’s aiguo (love of the nation) sentiments are then ‘stuck’ to this reinvented fashion.
