It provides more information about the scope, the sequence and the assessment methods in the appendixes. The information and the new ideas in this paper are supported by refereed publications.
English Language Teaching, 2014
In this paper, among many issues pertaining to the design of EFL multimedia courseware, I would like to discuss three correlated major fields which are of utmost significance in accordance with the literature and my personal reflection on the present context of foreign language teaching and learning at the University of Danang (UD), Vietnam. The presentation will consist of three parts, including the exploration of potential users of a CALL product; what should be included and what strategies are needed for the selection of the contents of the product, and the essential criteria for the multimedia design. These are followed by a summary of the triangular issues. Keywords: CALL, Multimedia design, EFL
This article analyzes the importance of the L1 use in EFL classrooms and seeks answers to the question of when and how to use the mother tongue in EFL classrooms in Vietnam and all over the world. The paper begins with a glimpse in the historical sequence of the six most-recognized ELT approaches and methods, which will highlight periodic changes in the role of L1 in the L2 teaching. The article then looks at some interesting current trends in English language teaching methodology with reference to the context of Vietnam. Finally, the paper clarifies some benefits as well as disadvantages of using the L1 in the L2 classroom before coming up with the conclusion and recommendations in terms of how and when to use (or to allow the use of) the students' native language in the EFL classroom.
Language is a very powerful tool for mutual understanding between people. In the increa-singly globalized society we live in, there is great importance and interest in learning lan-guages other than one's own mother tongue. Computer based teaching tools provide a po-tent medium through which such demand can be met conveniently. Shikshaka, a computer based teaching framework was developed for teaching languages using a dialogue-based an-dragogy and is aimed to fulfill the above re-quirement. Effective technological methodol-ogies were used to develop the system as an interactive tool using the goal oriented ap-proach developed by linguistic scholars. We have used the framework to implement two scenarios: to teach Tamil using Sinhala and to teach Sinhala using English. The learner's language can be customized with little effort, while the framework is flexible enough to be customizable to teach other target languages as well with some pedagogical input.

The War in Ukraine: Challenges to Just War Doctrines in Eastern Orthodoxy, 2024
The sequence and escalation of Russian-Ukrainian political and military conflicts since 2014, culminating in Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, have reopened interest in and debates on just war theory and practice in general and specifically in historic and modern Eastern Orthodox cultures and Orthodoxmajority states. These debates have significant repercussions in areas like church-state and church-military relations in these cultures; ecclesial involvement in these conflicts has varied from war-justification rhetoric (in the case of the Russian Orthodox Church) to reiterations of the inherited traditions of ecclesial pacifism/condemnation of all violence (the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, a number of Orthodox Churches, clerical and theological networks, etc.). The Russian ecclesial involvements in the justification of war/military necessity and formulation of just war narratives have triggered divisions and antagonisms in the Eastern Orthodoxy. The development and course of the ecclesial conflicts involving Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox churches and parishes (and other Orthodox ecclesiastic bodies) will show whether Orthodox religious actors may begin to play a more significant role in the articulation and application of newly emerging trends in areas like the theology of just peace, just peace-making and Christian realism, Orthodox social ethics and the dynamic praxis of just peace-making.
