The Ferrari 512 TR was the replacement for the exotic Testarossa and was introduced for the 1992 model year as a response to the introduction of Lamborghini's Diablo in 1990. The '512' refers to the engine's displacement of 5 liters through 12 cylinders. The 'TR' is in reference to a shortened version of the name Testarossa. Production of the 512 TR lasted four years. Based on feedback from customers for the Testarossa, Ferrari placed special emphasis on the interior of the 512 TR in order to improve comfort and ergonomics to make the car more comfortable for longer drives, with changes made to the steering wheel design and seats. The exterior remained mostly unchanged, which the car given a nose that resembled that of Ferrari's 348, which had been introduction three years earlier.
The 48-valve, 12-cylinder engine gained Nikasil cylinder liners, Bosch Motronic engine management, 10.0:1 compression, and a more efficient exhaust system. Power was rated at 428 horsepower (SAE), a boost from 390 horsepower. Top speed increased to 195 mph. The gearbox was redesigned to shirt more smoothly with a single-plate clutch. The disc brakes were enlarged and cross-drilled, and the steering was quickened.
This particular Ferrari 512 TR is a late-production 1994 model that is equipped with the factory-upgraded differential. The car is finished in black with a black interior. The car was delivered new to the United States and has had just three owners since new. The car has accumulated just 13,000 miles since new, and still retains all of its original books, tools, and manuals.
Worldwide production of the Ferrari 512 TR over the four year production run, just 2,261 examples were produced.
