U.S. News & World Report is an American media company that publishes news, opinion, consumer advice, rankings, and analysis. Founded as a news weekly magazine in 1933, U.S. News transitioned to primarily web-based publishing in 2010. U.S. News is best known today for its influential Best Colleges and Best Hospitals rankings, but it has expanded its content and product offerings in education, health, money, careers, travel, and cars.

The editorial staff of U.S. News & World Report is based in Washington, D.C. and Brian Kelly has been the chief content officer since April 2007. The company is owned by media proprietor Mortimer Zuckerman.

History

United States News was founded in 1933 by David Lawrence (1888–1973), who also started World Report in 1946. The two magazines covered national and international news separately, but Lawrence merged them into U.S. News & World Report in 1948 and subsequently sold the magazine to his employees.

Historically, the magazine tended to be slightly more conservative than its two primary competitors, Time and Newsweek, and focused more on economic, health, and education stories. It also eschewed sports, entertainment, and celebrity news.

World Report is CBC Radio's morning news program, airing weekdays at 5, 6, 7, and 8 AM, and Saturdays and Sundays at 6, 7, 8, and 9 AM. It lasts 10 minutes. The program's current weekday anchor as of September 2013 is David Common, and the weekend anchor is Marcia Young.

The program was originally broadcast on both CBC Radio One and CBC Radio 2, but was removed from Radio Two's schedule in 2007.

World Report is an Irish radio programme broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1. The programme provides a series of reports about international events that happened in the week of broadcast. Various members of staff from RTÉ News present and provide content for the show which airs every Sunday morning after 08:00 for under half an hour.

Previous incarnations

CNN International's main newscast brand for much of the 1990s was simply called "World News". In the late 1990s, the network introduced two editions of "CNN This Morning". The first edition was broadcast from their studio in Hong Kong, and the second edition was broadcast from their production centre in London. Both editions were intended to be morning programmes for Asia and Europe, respectively.

After a revamp of CNN International in 2001, the programme was split into two and was renamed. The Asian programme was named "NewsBiz Today", anchored by Kristie Lu Stout and Stan Grant in Hong Kong, while the European programme was named "BizNews", and was anchored by Hala Gorani and Richard Quest in London.

CNN International underwent another revamp in 2004. In March of that year, "NewsBiz Today" and "BizNews" were both renamed to "CNN Today".
