NÓS (Irish pronunciation: [n̪ˠoːsˠ], meaning "custom" or "trend") is an Irish language culture and lifestyle magazine.

Launched online on 17 March 2008 during Irish Language Week, Seachtain na Gaeilge, it began publishing a glossy print edition in November of the same year. Run on a voluntary basis, this full-colour monthly edition continued for over a year before NÓS was printed as an entertainment supplement with Irish language weekly newspaper, Gaelscéal. In July 2013, NÓS was relauched with a new design and is currently being published monthly, with extra content updated more frequently online.

The magazine covers topics such as music, film, travel, design, activism and current affairs. It was launched by Tomaí Ó Conghaile, former assistant editor of Lá Nua and television and radio presenter with BBC NI, and relies on a large network of contributors throughout Ireland and abroad.

NÓS has received a number of awards for its contemporary design and content, including Best Irish Language Website at the Irish Web Awards in 2009. It was also the first and only Irish language publications to be nominated at the Irish Magazine Awards.

The Pool is a universal independent role-playing game which was written in year 2000 by James V. West.

The Pool facilitates narrativist role-playing, that is, role-playing which focuses on players as protagonists in thematically charged stories. The game uses an open trait system and conflict resolution instead of task resolution (that is, dice rolls determine whether a character's overall intent is achieved, rather than whether a specific attempted action is successful).

Rules

The Pool is based on a dice pool with several six-sided dice (d6). Every player begins with a die supply of 15d6 which changes during character creation and play.

Character creation

Players define their characters by choosing the characters' motives. These may be attributes and skills like in classic RPGs, but as well archetypes ("greedy businessman"), traits ("depressive"), relationships ("married"), or other stats ("likes Tex-Mex food"). Every of these motives has a value of 1 to 3, which must be bought from the initial die supply of 15d6. The costs are value^2. A motive of 1 would cost one d6, a motive of 2 four d6 and a motive of 3 nine d6. Dice exchanged for motives can't be used during play.

The Pool is a 2007 drama film co-written and directed by Chris Smith. The film stars non-professional actors Venkatesh Chavan and Jhangir Badshah, as well as Bollywood veteran Nana Patekar and newcomer Ayesha Mohan.

The story revolves around a young janitor working at a hotel in the port city of Panjim, India, who sees from his perch in a mango tree a luxuriant garden and shimmering pool hidden behind a wall. In making whatever efforts he can to better himself, Venkatesh offers his services to the wealthy owner of the home. Not content to simply dream about a different life, Venkatesh is inquisitive about the home's inhabitants and his curiosity changes the shape of his future.

Though filmed in Hindi, a language Smith didn't know, the film earned good reviews. Besides winning a Special Jury prize at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, the film won accolades from Geoffrey Gilmore, director of the Sundance Film Festival. In the same year, it was screened at the Vienna International Film Festival and International Film Festival of India.
