Gao (Chinese: 高) is an East Asian surname of Chinese origin that can be literally translated as "high" or "tall". There are approximately 16 million living people with this surname. Some places, such as Taiwan, usually romanise this family name into Kao. In Hong Kong, it is romanized to Ko. In Macau, it is romanized to Kou.
According to Lüshi Chunqiu, the earliest figure with the Gao surname was Gao Yuan (高元) who created dwellings in antiquity. The grandson of the Yellow Emperor Zhuanxu was also known as Gao Yang (高陽).
Another origin of Gao is the Jiang (姜) surname. According to the Song Dynasty encyclopedia Tongzhi (通志), an early ancestor was Gao Xi (高傒) who was granted the surname Gao in honour of his grandfather Prince Gao (公子高). Prince Gao was the son of Duke Wen of the state of Qi whose ancestral name was Jiang (姜).
Many non-Han Chinese used the surname Gao:
In first aid and triage, the walking wounded are injured persons who are of a relatively low priority. These patients are conscious and breathing and will often have only relatively minor injuries; thus they are capable of walking. Depending on the resources available, and the abilities of the injured persons, walking wounded may sometimes be used to assist treatment of more seriously injured patients or assist with other tasks.
In most mass casualty situations, the walking wounded are the largest category of casualty.
According to Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment (START) documentation, walking wounded are determined by requesting those on the scene who may self-evacuate, to do so immediately to a designated refuge. Any casualties able to respond to this command and move themselves to the designated position are considered walking wounded.
According to the Revised Trauma Score (RTS) system of triaging, walking wounded can be considered to be those scoring a 12.
Walking wounded is a medical classification for persons who are not so badly injured that they cannot walk. The phrase may also refer to:
Walking Wounded is a 1996 album by Everything but the Girl, their ninth studio release. It is their highest charting album to date, reaching number 4 in the UK and number 37 in the US.
This was the first album in which the group adopted a more electronic and dance style after the success of the remixed version of "Missing" from their previous album, Amplified Heart. The album's cover art (see photo) is unusual in that it features an album's barcode on both the front and back of the album.
Several tracks from the album were released as singles, including 'the cinematic drum 'n' bass-pop crossover' "Walking Wounded" (number 6 on the Top 40), the 'thumping house' "Wrong" (number 8 on the Top 40), and the downtempo "Single" that set Thorn's emotionally direct vocal against breakbeats, organ and strings.
The album was reissued by Edsel Records as a 2-disc deluxe set in 2015.
