"Driftwood" is the second single taken from Indie band Travis' second studio album, The Man Who. It became their biggest hit single up to that point, peaking at #13 on the UK Singles Chart.
In an interview for NME, Fran revealed that, "The title reputedly comes from the advice of one of my close friends. He advised me not to leave college to concentrate on the band. The lyrics focus on a character who has abandoned all his connections and is now like driftwood - "breaking into pieces... hollow and of no use, waterfalls will find you, bind you, grind you". Driftwood is a song for the person in your life who has so much potential and, yet, doesn't use it, because they're afraid of falling on their backside, you know, they're afraid of making a fool of themselves. But, yet, if they put their minds to it and just threw their plate out the window, they would actually do a lot with it and make themselves happy and other people happy. The chorus came about while I was watching an episode of Cheers. The episode involved an employee overhearing their boss stating that he was going to get rid of the "driftwood" in the company. I then went to do the washing up, and the first line in the chorus just came to me. Also, our original idea was to include the lyrics "caterpillars turn to butterflies", but it was too long to fit with the tune, so we shaved off syllables, changing it to "pillars turn to butter."

The Cataracs was an American hip hop indie-pop production project (formerly duo) formed in Berkeley, California consisting of songwriter, vocalist, and producer Niles "Cyranizzy" Hollowell-Dhar (born 6 October 1988), and formerly songwriter and vocalist David "Campa" Benjamin Singer-Vine (born 1987). The duo started out as an independent group, during their years at Berkeley High School. The two were first signed to the label Indie-Pop. Singer-Vine left the group in August 2012 with Hollowell-Dhar continuing on with the name The Cataracs despite David's departure. Hollowell-Dhar also released materials starting 2014, under the name of KSHMR.
The duo met in their sophomore year while attending Berkeley High School. Singer-Vine was featured in a rap CD that was being passed around campus. When Dhar eventually heard the CD, he subsequently created a response. However, the “diss” response brought the two together and they soon became friends. In 2003, the two joined together to create what is now The Cataracs (named after the phrase “Who smoke ‘til your eyes get cataracts” from Snoop Dogg's song “What's my name Pt. 2”). In the summer of 2006, they released their first album, Technohop Vol. 1. In August 2006, the group joined with The Pack to make the single “Blueberry Afghani”. The song soon became a hit and was chosen as a “Download of the Week” by 106 KMEL and many music sites such as The Fader, UK’s Hip Hop Connection and XLR8R praised it.

Well, summertime's here and it's uch a good feeling
School is out and now I'm all about chillin'
Hangin' with my buddies at a barbque
You can call your friends and we'll meet around 2 o'clock
Around the block, people walking, talking
About whatever as they head to the park
And I think the temperatures a warm 85 in the sunshine
And now my cities alive
No worries 'bout rain on a sunny day
'Cuz the blue skies chasin' all the clouds away
It's just me my family and all my friends
'Cuz in the summer every day is a weekend
I can feel your love like a breeze off the water
Your love, your love, your love
Oh, yea, na, na, na, I know that it's right now
Around 7 pm, I'm gonna call my friends
Wake them up from a nap 'cuz they probably slept in
Go home grab a bite and change my clothes
I'm headed out with my crew cruisin' the roads
Lookin' for some fun on a positive tip
Roll down the windows, turnin' up the music
I caught an eye saying hit to some fly, honnies
So we stopped and taled and just shot the breeze
'Cuz summertime is so kick back
Sometimes, I wish my life is always like that
Around mid night and now I'm headed back home
Thinking to myself when I'm all alone
Thank God for a beautiful day
I feel your love in so many ways
In the hot summer breeze
Underneath the trees
Where the shade is cool
And I'm thinkin' of you and everything is fine
