The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (formerly Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering) of the University of the Philippines College of Engineering (UP EEEI) offers three undergraduate programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering (BSECE), and Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCoE) degrees. The Institute also offers graduate programs of study leading to the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) and Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (MEEE) degrees, and the Doctor of Engineering (DE) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Various areas of specialization are offered in the graduate programs: Electric Power Engineering, Computer and Communications Engineering, Microelectronics, and Instrumentation and Control.

The undergraduate program in Electrical Engineering is designed to train students in the analysis, planning, design, operation, instrumentation, and control of power systems and associated electrical machines, equipment, and devices. The undergraduate program in Electronics and Communications Engineering prepares students for the evaluation, planning, design, and operation of electronic devices, circuits, and instruments, and of communication equipment and systems. The undergraduate program in Computer Engineering is aimed at training students in the design, implementation, and application of computer hardware and software in modern computer systems.

Hot Hot Heat is a Canadian indie rock band from Victoria, British Columbia, formed in 1999. The band was signed by Seattle label Sub Pop in 2001 and released its first EP, Knock Knock Knock, and first full-length album, Make Up the Breakdown, the following year. The band has released three albums since, the most recent being Future Breeds in 2010. Its style makes use of electronic and traditional instruments and has variously been categorized as dance-punk, post-punk revival, new wave, and art-punk.

Career

Dustin Hawthorne, a drugstore clerk, and Steve Bays, a personal assistant, had been in many different bands together since 1995 and met Hawley in 1998. In 1999, Hawley bought a Juno 6 keyboard and asked Bays to try playing it, as no one else knew how. Hawley took over the drums from Bays and Hawthorne played bass. Matthew Marnik, who was a friend of the band, sang vocals. The band's original sound can be considered electropunk.

The band soon changed direction to a more melodic, pop-influenced style, losing Marnik and adding guitarist Dante DeCaro. Strongly influenced by the new wave sound of 1980s bands XTC, The Clash, and Elvis Costello and the Attractions, the new lineup, with Steve on vocals, quickly released a series of 7" singles and toured extensively in Canada and the American Pacific Northwest, joining up with similarly-styled indie rock bands such as Les Savy Fav, The French Kicks, Radio 4, Ima Robot, and Pretty Girls Make Graves, and opening for established Canadian rockers Sloan on a national tour.

Cold is the debut album by American alternative metal band Cold. The album produced two singles: "Go Away" and "Give."

Reception

Allmusic gave the album four out of five stars stating "Cold's songwriting isn't always great and they're too concerned with adolescent angst and horror ("Everyone Dies," "Insane," "Serial Killer," etc.), but the band's sound is fully formed, resulting in a strong debut."

Although the album didn't have excellent sales and lacked heavy promotion, it was ranked the 9th best album of 1998 by Kerrang!

The won (원, 圓) was the currency of Korea between 1902 and 1910. It was subdivided into 100 chon (전, 錢).

Etymology

Won is a cognate of the Chinese yuan and Japanese yen.

History

The won was introduced in 1902, replacing the yang at a rate of 1 won = 5 yang. In 1909, the Bank of Korea (한국은행; 韓國銀行) was founded in Seoul as a central bank and began issuing currency of a modern type. The won was equivalent to the Japanese yen and was replaced by the Korean yen in 1910 during the Colonial Era. In 1910, the Bank of Korea was renamed the Bank of Joseon (조선은행; 朝鮮銀行), which issued notes denominated in yen and sen.

Coins

Coins were minted in the denominations of ½, 1, 5, 10 and 20 chon, ½, 5, 10 and 20 won. The coins all carried the title of the "state", Daehan (대한; 大韓), and the Korean era name, Gwangmu (광무; 光武) and then Yunghui (융희;隆熙), whilst the specifications were equivalent to the coins of the Japanese yen.

Banknotes

No banknotes were issued denominated in won. However, Korean yen notes were issued by Dai Ichi Ginko (First National Bank (of Japan), 주식회사제일은행, 株式會社第一銀行).
