Deadlock is a detective novel by Sara Paretsky told in the first person by private eye (Vic) V. I. Warshawski.

Plot

Vic goes to the Chicago port to find out about her cousin Boom Boom's death. She believes that Boom Boom was killed. The police believe that this ex-Black Hawks hockey player died in an accident. Vic starts digging for motive and evidence. After two attempts on her life, she finally thinks she has the murder solved but needs strong evidence. To get it, she goes to the yacht of a shipping magnate but is caught by the magnate while she is gathering evidence against him. He confronts her and tells her she is going to die. The book, the second in which Warshawski, a crucial figure in a new breed of female detectives in detective literature, appears, is the basis of the film V.I. Warshawski, starring Kathleen Turner in the title role.

The author was given an award by the Friends of American Writers for the book.

The Bold Ones: The Protectors (also known as The Protectors, Deadlock or The Law Enforcers) is an American crime drama series that aired on NBC from 1969 to 1970; it lasted for seven episodes (including one pilot movie).

The Protectors was part of The Bold Ones, a rotating series of dramas that also included The New Doctors (with E.G. Marshall), The Lawyers (with Burl Ives) and The Senator (with Hal Holbrook). This was the shortest of the four series.

Overview

The series stars Leslie Nielsen as Deputy Chief Sam Danforth, the deputy chief of police in a volatile California city. He is a conservative law and order type who is brought in from Cleveland to try to keep the lid on. Nielsen often has run-ins with the city's idealistic, liberal black DA, William Washburn played by Hari Rhodes.

Plot

Voyager diverts through a dense nebula to prevent detection from two nearby Vidiian planets. As they exit it, the ship hits subspace-turbulence and suffers from power-failures. B'Elanna Torres prepares to begin a series of photon-bursts to keep the antimatter-reaction in the warp-engines alive; however, Voyager is bombarded with proton bursts from an unknown source. The bursts cause systems to fail across the ship, hull ruptures, and casualties, including the loss of Harry Kim through a hull breach and the newborn Naomi Wildman due to failures in her life-support system. Kes, en route to provide medical attention for the wounded, disappears through a space-time rift. As the crew recovers, Torres discovers there is air on the other side of the rift, and believes that it may be possible to rescue Kes. The bridge crew is forced to evacuate the bridge as it is engulfed in flames, but as she leaves, Captain Kathryn Janeway sees a ghostly image of the bridge-crew, calmly at their stations.

It is derived from the Italian word manifesto, itself derived from the Latin manifestum, meaning clear or conspicuous. Its first recorded use in English is from 1620, in Nathaniel Brent's translation of Paolo Sarpi's History of the Council of Trent: "To this citation he made answer by a Manifesto" (p. 102). Similarly, "They were so farre surprised with his Manifesto, that they would never suffer it to be published" (p. 103)

Deadlock is a German melodic death metal band from Schwarzenfeld, Bavaria, Germany. In 2010 they supported Lacuna Coil on tour. The band consists of only founding member Sebastian Reichl (guitar) and with longtime member Sabine Scherer (vocals) and more recent recruits John Gahlert (vocals), Ferdinand Rewicki (guitar) and Werner Riedl (drums). Previous members include Johannes Prem (vocals), Gert Rymen (guitar), Tobias Graf (Drums) and Thomas Huschka (bass).

History

Early days (1997-2001)

Formed in 1997 as a hardcore band by vocalist Johannes Prem, guitarist Sebastian Reichl, and drummer Tobias Graf, they released the 7" vinyl Deadlock in 1999. After this came the EP I'll Wake You, When Spring Awakes in 2000.

The Arrival and Earth. Revolt (2002-2006)

2002 saw the release of their first album, The Arrival. The album featured keyboards, orchestral elements and guest clean vocals from Sabine Scherer.

Their second album, Earth. Revolt was released in 2005. The band had expanded from a quartet to a six-piece with new guitarist Gert Rymen and clean vocalist Sabine Scherer now a full-time member of the band. The album featured a cleaner, more technical style and again employed clean vocals by Sabine Scherer.

Manifesto is the third studio album by American rapper, and Wu-Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck. The album was released on March 23, 2010, by Urban Icons Records and Traffic Entertainment Group. The album features guest appearances from Raekwon, Cappadonna, Cormega, Kurupt, Planet Asia, Termanology, Carlton Fisk, Billy Danze and Fes Taylor. Initially, the album was slated to be titled Resident Patient II, as a sequel to Inspectah Deck's 2006 album The Resident Patient. However, a mixtape entitled Resident Patient II leaked in 2008 that was not the actual product. Deck eventually changed the name of the project and is still planning to release his final album under the name The Rebellion. Manifesto is composed of songs originally cut from Resident Patient II.
