Top Model or Next Top Model is a fashion-themed reality television show format produced in many countries throughout the world and seen in over 120 countries producing over 200 seasons (referred to as "cycles"). The show takes the form of a modeling competition whose winners typically receive a contract with a major modeling agency and a cover shoot and fashion photo spread in a fashion magazine. The format was created by Tyra Banks for the original series, America's Next Top Model which was first aired in 2003, produced by Ken Mok's 10 by 10 Entertainment.

Format description

The following description of the show is based primarily on the American version of the series, though the format applies to the international versions as well.

Contestants

Each cycle of the show consists of 8–40 episodes and begins with 9–25 contestants. In each episode one contestant is eliminated, though in some cases there may be double eliminations, multiple eliminations, or no elimination at all, based on the consensus of the judging panel. Makeovers are administered to contestants early in the cycle, usually after the first or second elimination.

Top Model STHLM aired from September 12, 2007. It was the fourth cycle of Sweden's Next Top Model. It is also the first individual cycle of the show. It was hosted by Vendela Kirsebom, who was hosting Norway's Next Top Model at the same time. It was the first individual series of Top Model for Sweden. It was based in Stockholm. The winner was Hawa Ahmed. The runner-up, Margarita Maiseyenka, was deported from Sweden back to Belarus after the show aired.

Top Model (formerly Top Model. Zostań modelką (English: Top Model. Become a Model)) is a Polish reality television show based on Tyra Banks' America's Next Top Model. The show sees a number of aspiring models compete against each other in a variety of competitions to win the title of the next Top Model of Poland, along with a lucrative modeling contract with NEXT Model Management, an appearance on the cover of Polish Glamour magazine and a nationwide Max Factor campaign in hopes of a successful career in the modeling business.

The competition is hosted by Polish American supermodel Joanna Krupa, who serves as the lead judge. The other members of the judging panel are fashion designer Dawid Woliński, runway coach Kasia Sokołowska and photographer Marcin Tyszka. Supermodel Anja Rubik has made several guest appearances throughout the show's run.

Challenges

Challenges generally focus on elements important to modeling which will help the contestants improve for the week's photo shoot. A guest judge evaluates the contestants and decides the winner of each challenge. The winner of the challenge receives a prize for their victory. Sometimes the challenge winner is permitted to choose a certain number of other contestants to receive a similar, but lesser reward, while the others are given nothing. Winners of a particular challenge are sometimes also granted immunity from elimination for the week.

Next Top Model, Cycle 2 is the second cycle of Next Top Model. It premiered on September 15, 2011; only half a year after the first season.

The competition was again hosted by Romanian fashion designer Cătălin Botezatu. He was joined at the panel once again by make-up artist Mirela Vascan, hair stylist Laurent Tourette and model agent Liviu Ionescu. Photographer Gabriel Hennessey, who shot most of the pictures from Cycle 1, did not return this time. The winner of the competition, was 14-year-old Laura Giurcanu from Bucharest, Romania

The judges welcome aspiring models to castings held all over Romania. The final fifteen are selected, and a surprise contestant (Sandra) is re-introduced to the competition despite not having made the final cut.

Episode 2

The models receive their makeovers. Gina and Laura throw a fit when they become displeased with their new looks. Later, the girls receive training on all things top model. This includes walking on an extremely narrow platform where the contestants must practice balance for the upcoming runway challenge.

Brazil has had two adaptations of the modelling competition Next Top Model under two different titles and on two different networks:

Philippines’ Next Top Model was a Filipino reality competition broadcast by the Radio Philippines Network where a number of women competed for the title of the country's "next top model". The series was a local version of America's Next Top Model and was won by Grendel Alvarado of Bacolod, who received a modeling representation with Starz People in Hong Kong, an editorial fashion spread in Preview magazine, US$10,000 courtesy of Mane and Tail Shampoo, a P150,000 modeling contract with Saga Events, a one-year local endorsement campaign from L'Oréal Paris, one-year complimentary treatments from Marie France and Facial Care Center, a south sea pearl necklace from Jewelmer, and the title "Jewelmer’s Pearl Ambassador to the World". The international destination for this cycle was Victoria, Hong Kong. The show did not continue for a second series.

Format

The first Philippines' Next Top Model selected fourteen contestants and ran for at thirteen episodes. It showcased some twists and a surprise double-elimination. Like America's Next Top Model, there is one contestant eliminated per episode (though there have been cases of a double elimination or no elimination) by consensus of the judging panel. During the program, PNTM used the idea of Ruffa-text instead the usual Mail like in ANTM - Tyra Mail, Australian version - Erika, Jodhi or Sarah Mail and others. This is because of the wide range of Filipinos known for SMS or much loved for texting and the Philippines being known as the SMS capital of the world.

West Germany is the common English name for the Federal Republic of Germany or FRG (German: Bundesrepublik Deutschland or BRD) in the period between its creation on 23 May 1949 to German reunification on 3 October 1990. This period is referred to as the Bonn Republic (German: Bonner Republik) by academic historians, an earlier term being the Bonn State (German: Bonner Staat).

During this period NATO-aligned West Germany and Warsaw Pact-aligned East Germany were divided by the Inner German border. After 1961, West Berlin was physically separated from East Berlin as well as from East Germany by the Berlin Wall. This situation ended when East Germany was dissolved and its five states joined the ten states of the Federal Republic of Germany along with the reunified city-state of Berlin. With the reunification of West and East Germany, the Federal Republic of Germany, enlarged now to sixteen states, became known simply as "Germany".

The Federal Republic of Germany was established from eleven states formed in the three Allied Zones of occupation held by the United States, the United Kingdom and France (the "Western Zones"). Its population grew from roughly 51 million in 1950 to more than 63 million in 1990. The city of Bonn was its de facto capital city (Berlin was symbolically named the de jure capital city in the West German Basic Law). The fourth Allied occupation zone (the East Zone, or Ostzone) was held by the Soviet Union. The parts of this zone lying east of the Oder-Neisse were in fact annexed by the Soviet Union and communist Poland; the remaining central part around Berlin became the communist German Democratic Republic (abbreviated GDR; in German Deutsche Demokratische Republik or DDR) with its de facto capital in East Berlin. As a result, West Germany had a territory about half the size of the interbellum democratic Weimar Republic.
