This song was originally chosen by Capitol Records to be LeToya's debut single, but was changed due to LeToya insisting "Torn" be her debut single instead. Three versions of the song leaked to the internet over prior to the fourth and final version found on the album. The first, original version, is a demo recording that leaked very early after recording. The second is a copied version of the original demo recording. The third version features Houston rappers Paul Wall and Slim Thug, and the final version featuring only Paul Wall.

Although renowned for their commercially successful 1998 single "Iris", they have had several other notable and popular singles including "Name" and "Naked" from 1995's A Boy Named Goo, "Slide", "Black Balloon", "Dizzy", and "Broadway" from 1998's Dizzy Up the Girl, "Here Is Gone" from 2002's Gutterflower, "Better Days", "Give a Little Bit", and "Stay with You" from 2006's Let Love In (although "Give A Little Bit" was originally released on the 2004 live CD/DVD album Live in Buffalo: July 4th, 2004), and "Home" from 2010's Something for the Rest of Us. The Goo Goo Dolls have had 19 top ten singles on various charts, and have sold more than 10 million albums worldwide.
In October 2012, "Iris" was ranked #1 on Billboard's "Top 100 Pop Songs 1992–2012" chart, which also featured Goo Goo Dolls hits "Slide", ranking at #9, and "Name" at #24. Their biggest hit, "Iris", from the City of Angels soundtrack (and later Dizzy up the Girl), spent nearly 12 straight months on the Billboard charts and held the number one position on the Hot 100 Airplay chart for 18 weeks. The first single from their 2010 album, Something for the Rest of Us, "Home", extended the band's record to 14 top ten hits at the hot AC radio format (more than any other artist in the history of that format). Goo Goo Dolls, also known as First Release, is the debut studio album by American rock band Goo Goo Dolls. All of the songs are sung by bassist Robby Takac, who was originally the band's lead vocalist. It is the hardest to find of all the band's studio albums, being only an LP, out of print, and not in wide circulation to begin with. The song "I'm Addicted" was the only song from Goo Goo Dolls represented on the band's 2001 compilation album, What I Learned About Ego, Opinion, Art & Commerce. The song "Torn Apart" was also included on the compilation album Volume Two, which consisted of other album tracks, b-sides and rarities.
The album was recorded in three days during the winter of 1986, on a $750 budget at Trackmaster's Studio in Buffalo. The band admitted in their 1999 VH1 Behind the Music special that the album was recorded under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Rzeznik stated "[We had] a lot of beer, a lot of truck stop speed, a lot of pot...[I] don't remember a lot of it."
It’s now or never, come on,
Show me what you got,
Show me what you got,
Show me what you got,
Show me what you got.
Oh I have been the girl next door, try to do everything right
Never jumped right off the edge just slipped over sometimes
Why should I 0:00:22 up inside,
You see my thought, you’ll really 0:00:26 and my star will rise.
What’s going on?
I think my waiting is done.
All eyes on me, it’s my time to shine,
All eyes on me, I’m gonna leave it all behind,
Then I will rise looking for the spotlight,
I’m gonna spark up and be so bright.
So bright,
So bright,
So bright.
Never lost my sweetness, and I never lost my charm,
They lost what made me 0:01:04
Everybody wants to make it, but neither gets inside,
I got the key to unlock it, so let the fire come alive.
What’s going on?
I think my waiting was done.
All eyes on me, it’s my time to shine,
All eyes on me, I’m gonna leave it all behind,
Then I will rise looking for the spotlight,
I’m gonna spark up and be so bright.
All eyes on me, it’s my time to shine,
All eyes on me, I’m gonna leave it all behind,
Then I will looking for the spotlight,
I’m gonna spark up and be so bright.
So bright, bright.
0:01:58 thing was on that room
I’m gonna show you what I got,
You’ve never seen a girl like me,
That’s right, oh yeah, as on me this is fast
But it just seems now 0:02:08 better say
You know I maybe fast asleep,
A shooting star, no that’s not me,
I’m the raising star you got to say ah
Everybody wants to make it, but neither gets inside
I got the key to unlock it to let the fire come alive.
What’s going on?
I think my waiting is done
All eyes on me, it’s my time to shine
All eyes on me, I’m gonna leave it all behind,
Then I will rise looking for the spotlight,
I’m gone spark up and be so bright.
All eyes on me, it’s my time to shine,
All eyes on me, I’m gonna leave it all behind.
Then I will rise looking for the spotlight.
I’m gonna spark up and be so bright.
It’s now or never,
Come on,
Show what you got,
