Earl Page - History/Sociology: I've been here 41 years. I came here from a 4 year school where the emphasis was almost entirely on the old 'publish or perish' stuff, and I wasn't interested in doing that; I was interested in teaching. This place was an absolute perfect fit for me because that's what they cared about, and that's what they try to show our students. And the single most important thing about that to me is that there has never been an attempt, in any way, to tell me, "Well you don't dress quite like we'd like you to dress; you don't act like we'd like you to act;" "Jeez, could you tone it down; don't jump off desks; don't scream and yell." No one's ever made any attempt to censor either the way we do what we do or what we say. And it's just been a fantastic learning environment, I think, for our students. And does what we're supposed to do, which is serve the communtiy and help these kids improve their lives. So I never once thought about going anywhere else or doing anywhere else. This is an absolutely perfect place to teach.
