The Allagash Wilderness Waterway is a 92.5-mile-long (148.9 km) protected area extending from Aroostook County, Maine into Piscataquis County, Maine. It is a ribbon of lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams of the Maine North Woods that includes much of the Allagash River. Canoeing, fishing, hunting, and camping are among the activities permitted.[2]

WELCOME TO THE ALLAGASH WILDERNESS WATERWAY I AM MATT LAROCHE SUPERINTENDENT OF THE WATERWAY THE WATERWAY IS A 92 MILE LONG RIBBON OF LAKES, RIVERS, PONDS AND STREAMS THAT FLOWS THROUGH THE HEART OF MAINE'S INDUSTRIAL FOREST THE WATERWAY IS MANAGED BY THE MAINE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, CONSERVATION & FORESTRY UNDER THE BUREAU OF PARKS & PUBLIC LANDS THE ALLAGASH WAS ESTABLISHED BY THE MAINE LEGISLATURE IN 1966 TO PROTECT THE WILDERNESS CHARACTER OF THIS UNIQUE RIVER THERE IS A LONG HISTORY HERE IN 1970 THE WATERWAY WAS NAMED THE FIRST STATE COMPONENT OF THE NATIONAL WILD AND SCENIC RIVERS SYSTEM WE REALLY ENJOY HAVING PEOPLE COMING UP ON THE ALLAGASH WILDERNESS WATERWAY FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES ALL WALKS OF LIFE AND IF YOU COME COMPARED WELL, YOUR TRIP WILL BE FINE YOU'LL HAVE A GREAT TIME WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO COME & PADDLE ONE OF AMERICA'S MOST PRISTINE WILD RIVERS WE WANT TO COME UP & ENJOY THIS RIVER GET IN TOUCH WITH NATURE THIS IS WHAT WE ARE MANAGING THIS RIVER FOR
